Popping noise when turning

When I’m backing out of the driveway and turn the steering wheel all the way, I feel a popping sound. Only happens when steering wheel is turned all the way (in either direction). Anybody else having this issue?

 

Are you running bigger tires? I see your a 4x2, could the tire be hitting the fender well or UCA?

 

any mods done to the truck or stock suspension/tires ?

 

Stock 20” blackout wheels w/ BF Goodrich tires. No mods.

 

could it be rubbing on engine skid plate (if any?)

 

Maybe the sidewalls are hitting the coilovers or UCAs. My boys runner does this on the coilovers at max turn in reverse.

If that’s it, seems like poor planning for the tss edition wheels/tire combo.

 

I noticed a clunk sound on mine every time I pulled out of my drive. I read a thread on here about the ABS system performing a system check that sounds like a clunk. I chalked it up to that since I can't find any signs of rubbing. It will do it when I first start up and take off straight as well. Usually I am turning out of the drive or a parking spot which is what originally lead me to believe it was a rub.

 

The ABS check only does it once, when you hit 15mph. If you're hearing multiple clunks, you probably have some other issue.

Same here. I only hear it once. I am almost certain it happens at less than 15mph since it happens usually when I am mid turn when pulling out of my drive way. I'll look for some signs of rubbing just to be safe. My truck has the TSS appearance package with black 20" wheels and the BFGs.

My popping(s) usually deal with primarily cherries or trying to stand up from a squatting position, but the time I heard popping on my truck was resolved by just lifting the truck up and looking under it. Never happened again, but absolutely couldn’t make it stop no matter what I did. And, it only happened when I was turning though no specific radii made it happen.

 

Is the noise coming from the front or back? I had a popping noise coming from the back of mine, while turning. The noise turned out to be the parking brake cable was the culprit. I loosened the mounting clips and wiggled it let it settle then tightened the clips. No more noise.

My 2020 tundra seems to be doing the same thing. Have you found a solution to this?

 

If it is a single pop when you start driving, it is the ABS self-check and is perfectly normal. Since most people start their daily driving backing out of their driveway they associate the popping noise with backing up and turning, but in reality it has nothing to do with that.
If it is actually every time you back up, then you might be rubbing, but I would think your's is the ABS.

 

Does the noise occur with movement in the front suspension? For example, if your driveway has slope, does the "pop" occur with the wheel fully turned when you roll across the paving angle or ribbon curb to the street crown?

Is the noise localized to suspension side on the inside of the turn?, Or on the outside of the turn? Or, does the noise seem to always come from same location?

Have you tried generating the noise with slightly longer turn radius, i.e. wheel turned just short of "all the way"?

 

I have 1 week old 2021 toyta tundra same problem every time i start driving going ask on my first servise whats going on

 

I just bought one too. It will happen at 6mph when you first drive each time you turn on the truck. To prove, drive backwards past 10mph, you wont hear it. Drive forward under 5mph for a while and you wont hear it. Soon as you get to 6mph....clunk. abs check.
