Not as extravagant as some other builds, but it’s modifications all the same. Who knows, maybe this will evolve beyond my expectations :)

My thought is to add the pro "upgrades." If there's something better for a reasonable price I'm open to it - but from what I've read Toyota did a fairly good job with their R&D on the TRD stuff for this truck. It sounds like there are better shocks for this truck available, but that's toward the bottom of my list, so I havent looked into it much.

Here’s what I got from dealer when I bought it:
    New 2017 SR5 4x2 5.7L Flex
    - SR5 upgrade (entune with nav & backup, 38gal tank) and tow package
    - TSS (black) regional package: 20” rims, off road tires, black badges, nurf bars, all weather floor mats
    - Remote start, spray in liner, bed cargo lights
    - I had them add tonneau cover, leather seats

Maybe some others, but that’s all I can remember at the moment.

Edit: here’s a pic of the sheet that listed the options packages:

    A month after purchase:

Winjet smoke tail lights (had to replace drivers side because apparently someone didn’t see my truck parked there...)

    Its 1st birthday:

I'm about a year into it (bought it mid May 2017) and I really enjoy the truck. the power is fun. seats are comfortable enough (drove from Houston to Anaheim CA, then to Paso Robles CA and then back to Houston last July). Plenty of room in the backseat for my 3 kids.

I've started with cosmetics mostly because I think the truck preforms well for what I do: (kid hauler, grocery hauler, move helper, furniture picker-upper, toy hauler in a few years)

Last week or so I did:
Pro grille with color matched surround

pop lock (turn manual tailgate lock into automatic lock - not pictured lol)

    -edit: 3rd break light 6/27/2018

Installed these LED cargo lights. I’d say 50% brighter at least. Picture doesn’t do it justice.
    E30D1708-AD34-4A36-9D5A-4BD54CA05B1C.jpg

Decided I didn’t want to drop the head liner to replace the 3rd light. Decided to try plasti dip... $10 and if I don’t like it I can peel it off.

    Smoked 3rd break light.

Process: coat of black (I went too heavy I think...). wait 10 minutes. 5 heavy coats of clear 10-20 minutes apart.
I removed the light cover to paint it in my garage.

Removing TSS tail decals and back window “born here lives here” sticker.

I think the blackout badges look good, so I’m keeping them for now

Max legal tint (Texas: 20% front driver and passenger, no restriction behind the driver) 4 Sides and rear. SunTek CeramicIR

6/8/2018 Tint done & stickers removed (before on top):

Told shop to do max legal tint, they peeled the tint off the front two side windows and installed 40%. Added 20% over the rear factory tint.

Tail stickers came off relatively easy (1yo truck). I didn't use any tools other than my finger nails. I just picked at a side and it started to pull up - got 99% in one big strip (it broke a few times, you've got to pull at the correct angle and put even pressure on it).
There was some "glue" around the edges which came off after spraying some WD40 on it, letting it sit for a minute or two and then scrubbing it with a MF cloth. I had to repeat that about 3 times on each side then I washed it with some warm water/dawn mixture with a clean MF cloth. Probably took me 30-40 minutes total.

Trying to finish exterior cosmetic changes in the next few months:

Powder coat chrome bumpers... just need to find some time to remove the caps and take them to the powder coat guy. Quotes seem to be around $100-150 in my area if you "know a guy."

    Tow mirrors: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733HRB1K/

    Smoked fog lights.

    or
    https://www.bajadesigns.com/products/Toyota-Tacoma-Tundra-4Runner-Squadron-Sport-Amber-WC.asp

I gotta do something about that tailgate dent... and the minor door dings. Going to try HeatGun and DustOff.

Edit: 7/16/2018 - Heat Gun and DustOff may have made some small improvement, but didnt fix it completely. I watched several YouTube videos: heat, spray dustoff coolant while banging with the side of my fist around the dent. Maybe they're too old (metal warped) or something, but I think I'm going to have to have them professionally done... I've got some paint issues that need help too, so maybe have them do that. (spot where the paint has chipped off and some bug etching).

After taking off the "TSS" stickers on the bed sides it looks a little plain. I think I'll have some custom vinyl made. Probably black to match the theme I've got going on around the truck.

    Huskey floor mats
    https://www.amazon.com/Husky-Liners-53711-53841-Coverage-2014-2016/dp/B01MA3NO0P/ref=sr_1_1

Chrome delete the interior - the sun catches that and it’s BLINDING! I think I want to take my time and find some nice vinyl to wrap it with.

After that (or maybe during...) I think I want to do sway bars in a month. Thinking of going TRD pro for front and rear. I corner fast and could do without the body roll - no extreme off road plans (4x2) and I'm usually on well maintained roads so not a huge issue there. Mostly it's just the occational parking in the wet grass or pulling people out of the ditch when they slide off the road lol

Edit 7/26/2018: RSB on! It's AWESOME!! Decided to hold off on the FSB until after I get used to the RSB. Spread out the joy a bit :)

After that maybe intake and exhaust.
Thinking of doing DirtyDeeds total tundra trd replacement (stainless? I don’t know the reason for the material difference) and the TRD Pro intake.

    http://dirtydeedsindustries.com/product/trd-tailpipes/

    https://parts.toyotaofcoolsprings.com/oem-parts/toyota-trd-cold-air-intake-system-ptr0300140

Don’t need a ton of noise or drone at freeway speeds, I like stock setup but it would be nice to have a little louder/better sound when I get on it and minor performance upticks.

Update 7/30/2018: After talking a further look into it... the dual pipes is mostly aesthetic, and (if anything) robs low end torque, so I think I'm going to stick with the 8" standard system. Also, new intake seems to (reportedly) have NO benefit, so I'll probably skip that. Not sure if i'm going to do headers or not, still need to look into it.

    http://dirtydeedsindustries.com/product/standard-8-system/

Eventually suspension - I don’t want to lift much, I have little kids and a little wife and they already have a hard time getting in and out. I also prefer more of the full wheel well look and don’t want larger tires/rims. I don’t know what I’m looking at here so it’ll be a while as I research.

Eventually swap out remote start for one that has a take over procedure... so I can unlock the doors, load the kids, then pop the key in the ignition all while the engine is still running and glorious cold air works to keep the cabin cool against the Houston heat...

Mayyybbbeeee Tires and Rims... but I think I'm going to wear the rubber down on these first.

Not sure what’s after that, but that should keep me busy for a while lol

Feel free to chime in with any opinions or recommendations!

    Thanks!

I think I’m looking at under 5k in upgrades and maybe 10 hours of my labor... but that depends on the stuff I don’t have prices on :)

Seems like most on these build threads go way crazier lol

That they can. But if I could do half the stuff people have done on here I would too. I suck at electrical so if I get lights they have to be plug and play or I can't install.

Just do what you want. If on here long enough you'll see stuff you want to add for practicality and others just cause they are cool.

It's amazing really...everyone leaves the lot with basically the same or similar looking truck. But they don't have to stay that way. Too many around here running stock...I wanted to set mine apart from those.

For sure - I’m building my truck not someone else’s. And I’m no mechanic... there is no lift in my garage... I don’t have a shop... I can turn a wrench and splice wires, I’m usually pretty good with that until you ask me to sodder something - ive never taken the time to get good at that... but strangely I’m pretty decent novice welder! (oxymoron?) lol

I’m surprised with how many I see stock... especially since I lurk around other tundra forums / FB pages and they all seem to have mostly custom jobs... difference between the hobby side and the average user I suppose. As with most things I think I find myself in the middle! :)

Tint done (added to oringinal post).

A little darker on the back three windows. Higher quality film all the way around to try and keep out more of the Texas heat.

    Also pulled stickers off.

I mean... I dont really see them except when i walk around my truck... and I really like the appearance haha

    they aren’t very bright though.

Just took these daytime pictures, if I think about it tonight I’ll grab some night shots.

No pick of reverse lights... you use a bulb that doesn’t come with the light... so that’s up to you.

I like the way they look too. I thought I read some stuff on here talking about lower visibility. I use LED on all exterior and interior lights, so I like to see things lol but they do look badass, ill give you that!

Blinkers and breaks seem bright enough - but the lights that illuminate when the headlights are on are pretty faint... cant be too bad though, I've had them for a year and havent been pulled over... I dont do a ton of night driving, maybe on the road after dark for a half hour a few times a week.

The backup lights on our trucks suck. I can see.. but hard to make out the edge of the driveway using my mirrors at night (I try to get as close to the edge where the driveway meets the grass so my wife has PLENTY of room to get her car in and out of the garage lol). As I think I said in the OP I'm going to install some low profile aftermarket flood lights under my rear bumper to help with that visibility. hopefully in the next few weeks.

How do you like the spyder headlights? I found a nice matching head and tail set but a friend told me they don’t seem as bright as the stock lights on his truck, I don’t remember what he has but it’s not a tundra. I love the new trd lights but they’re expensive so I was thinking about a vinyl wrap to smoke my lights to save money since it’s more a cosmetic thing for me

Yeah, they arent quite as bright as the aftermarket bulbs I had in mine - I got the cheaper spyders though. I may try the HIDs at some point. They are supposed to be brighter... not smoked lenses and I havent done much research on them yet.

Did you need any adapters for the leds in those or do they go in no problem?

No adapter, no problem - they are set up to just strait swap. Getting the headlight out is a bit of a chore though.. Not terrible, but seems like more work than it should be IMO :)

Oh I’m sure the headlights a pain. I had a rear blinker go out and it was hard enough getting the taillights out while feeling like I’m about to break it the whole time haha

    Rears weren't too bad IMO

On the fronts you have to take off the grille. The panels under the lights (and to take those off you have to take a few bolts out of your fender flairs if you have them), then you can start unfastening the bolts that hold the light in.....

Damn that is a bit of work just to swap headlights out. Do you have to do that to get bulbs replaced too?

Yep. Too tight behind the headlight to swap bulbs without pulling the whole housing. Like i said, It's not terrible, but set aside an hour or two to do it....
