Looking at getting a cement 2WD SR5 crewmax 5.7l. MSRP is showing me $39,753. With a $1250 rebate for tundra and a $500 military rebate. If I offer $35,500 out the door. Is that a realistic price they will entertain? Or am I lowballing them. Any suggestion is helpful. I am in San Diego CA, idk if that makes a difference on pricing. It’s gonna be about 3K on taxes.

Welcome from CO. If paying straight up $35,500 in cash they might take it, but if financing, I can't see how they would. But hey! it doesn't hurt to ask, right?

Did you find one at a local dealer, or were you just pricing out what you want on Toyota.com? out here I couldnt find the SR5 i wanted (SR5 Upgrade, Entune Premium) without extra add-ons I didnt really care about.

They probably like financing better that cash. Thye get commissions on financing. I got lucky when I bought mine. Absolutely no port or dealer adds. I had one dealer that told me they could not find a TRD OR without the Protection Package. I said ok I am not paying $400+ for a bottle of wax. Dealer closest to my house puts their dealer add on pkg on everything. Nitrogen, door edge guards, and a few other things that add to almost $1k. 5 years ago it started with nitrogen. I negotiated final price and then said take the nitro off.

I was thinking that about the financing too - but not sure enough to make the comment myself lol
but i'm sure that's if you dont bring your own financing to the table... not sure what the manufacture financing does for them - kickbacks I'm sure.

"I dont want it. Find me one that doesnt have it - but you cant, so you're trying to sell me this one. That's fine but I'm not paying for something I dont want. Take it off or give it for free, your choice." I think if more people took that approach you'd see less of that dealer installed garbage (Not that all dealer installed stuff is garbage... but most of it probably is).

I went in and all they took off was $500 off MSRP. I walked out on them. Out the door price was $41,798. I’ll take my business somewhere else and see what they offer me.

I see other posts where people are getting 4x4 for less than what I’m paying out the door for a 4x2

I will not pay for the extra stuff that is worthless but you ought to hear their sales pitch on some of that stuff. When I was buying my last Tacoma the sales manager understood my position perfectly and she was ready to order what I wanted at employee pricing. Then she went on vacation. I ended up talking to one her sales guy that took offense to my $400 bottle of wax comment and tried to convince me the protection pkg was a good deal and told me how all these people but it. They sell that stuff (like nitrogen) to the clueless.

Went in today. Offered $36K out the door for a 2018 Cement Tundra SR5 2WD 5.7L double cab. MSRP is $36,7xx, with $4k of options I didn’t care for and taxes. Offered it to me for $43k. I said no. Came back after about 20 minutes and offered me $387xx out the door and said no. I left at 730pm. Went to rubios for dinner then went home and guess who called. Toyota!!!!! They said the GM was already gone for the day and as soon as he comes in tomorrow they will tell him my offer and see what he says. Before I left though the told me the offer of $387xx was only good if I took it then and there. Let’s see what they have to say tomorrow.

"Only good right now - as soon as you walk out that door, it's gone!"
Like they got people lined up around the block to buy THAT truck. Gotta love sales tactics.

It's a truck. There's a factory pumping out clones of it. Don't be in a hurry and wait for the right deal.

I’ve helped several people (single girls) with dealers.
Before we go in, I tell em that when we get up to leave just do it.
First thing I tell the salesman is that if they say it’s a now or never deal we will leave. Then we do.
I’ve no tolerance for that shit

When I take my wife to shop for a car, first thing I say before we leave the house, and I repeat it again just before we get out at the dealership:
"It's just a car. Don't fall in love with it until we decide to drive one off the lot."

I have made my walk away from several cars. It makes her sad but she knows it is for the best.

My wife is pretty indecisive. Her favorite phrase when making decisions is “well, I just don’t know.” So I use that to my favor: “if you’re not sure, let’s not spend 30k+. If you change your mind other cars will be made.”

Only one dealer REALLY didn’t want us to walk out. We weren’t sure we were going to buy new or used. They called us into the fish bowl with the managers and asked me “give me a number - how much would you be willing to pay to drive this off the lot tonight? No number is too low...” I said “free. Other wise we were just looking and pricing cars, which is what I’ve repeatedly told the sales guy.” Talk about high pressure sales...

I ended up paying 50% more (30k or so total) over the “invoice” they showed me for their car - but it was a trim line up, 3 years newer (brand new), and had everything I wanted.

Cement 5.7l 2WD double cab SR5 Tundra. Have the 36 gallon tank capacity. Nitrogen tires, door edge guards. Couple other small option add ons. Was very satisfied. $3k+ for taxes and fees. So OTD for $36K. I was completely happy.
