cooking dinner i notice house is not getting cooler and im sweating. Go outside and only the fan is running..compressor is not. So i shut it down and call my ac guy. Go on a bike ride with 5 year old son (makes everything better) Get back have popsicles on front porch. Still stressing about ac and preparing to spend the night in my shop and my ac guy calls and says its probably the internal protection and needs to cool down and reset. May be a cap he will come out in morning. Then look across street and a guy who is working on my neighbors house his old Ford 250 ranger with 300k miles is on fire. So a friend grabs my son and i grab the fire extinguisher and put out the fire. Fire truck comes and son gets to sit in fire truck..AWESOME!! Come back home and ac is now working again but still having guy out in morning to test everything. I think to myself... i stressed the hell out about my ac not working but thats really just a joke. Things could always be a LOT worse and i look at my wife and son and im just so thankful.

Dude. I would have been stressed too. My AC went out last night. Luckily it was later in the evening so the house didn't get that hot. AC guy came out today and fixed various issues.

Glad no one was in that truck when it caught fire. do they know what caused it?

The guy said it backfired when he tried to start it. Super beat up really old work truck. My neighbor is an old timer so he hires old timer type of guys.

Might just be a freeze stat kicking in, but it should fire back up if that's the issue. Might be the run capacitor, coil might need cleaned...let me know what he comes up with. Run capacitors are pretty darn cheap relatively speaking.

This particular problem has happened 3 times in 11 years and every time it resets itself and works fine for years. For whatever reason the compressor does not start all the way and it heats up and shuts itself off then just needs to reset...and everytime im sweating balls stressing out about it. I keep the filters changed and the unit hosed down so no debris clogs up the fins. Its Tempstar and really i would not hesitate to buy a Tempstar again. My house has no shade so it works hard in the summer. I will have my guy check everything and let you know what he says.

I have really learned not to sweat the small stuff, especially things out of my control. It seems tragedy always puts things in perspective about what's truly important and what's not.

I'm glad it kicked back on for ya!

Every thing checks out ok. Just a glitch that happens like I said in post 7. Contactor looks good so who knows why this happens..

And the moral of the story is, apparently, it could always be hotter!

Awesome you helped your neighbor out! I hear that if Fords don't first disintegrate they will eventually spontaneously combust.

I keep running into the fan control board going bad out here. Replaced 3 in the last few years at friend's/family's homes and only one bad run/start capacitor on my own system.

Wow! Glad you could help out your neighbors repair guy and nobody got hurt! Funny how things always puts things in perspective for us.
