Go with linex for your bed liner. There are cheaper options but you definetly get what you pay for, and it has a lifetime warranty.

    Hey @kcaustin66
    I'm running Michelin defenders 275 65 18 @ 40psi
consistently getting mid to high 18's.. not just a fluke ..
I average 100+ miles a day for work so fuel economy was a big concern when I selected the 4.6 & the defenders.

For me it was all about leg room. I’m 6’3 and rear seats of double cab just felt small and cramped. I fit in it ... but just not as easy. Crew max is massive.

Buddy at work is 6’7 and has no problem fitting in the crew max. Shorter bed ... but I don’t haul long items like 8’ 2x4 regularly. So bigger cab was more important.

Would be nice if crew max had option of larger bed. Could get the best of both worlds. Now get on that Toyota and add a giant turbo diesel. Lol.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
Tons of opinions on here, really it comes down to what do you use the truck for?
    Family hauler?
    Towing?
do you haul anything large regularly?
    and probably the most important...
which one will make you want to turn around and look at it after you've parked? (get that one)

daddy ride3.jpg I say just do whatever makes you happy, but for sure go with the 5.7! People will tell you 4.6 still has blah blah blah, but before becoming a Yota owner I had a couple of Z71's with the 4.8. And the difference between 4.8 and 5.3 was very significant, and I always regretted it. So just make sure you go with the 5.7!

Yes the mpg difference is barley anything. Go for the gusto 5.7. You won’t regret it. :muscleflexing:

TRD rear sway bar, console organizer, stubby antenna, LEDs for cabin, cargo, license plate, and reverse lights, power-fold mirrors, Westin nerf bars, full stereo upgrade. Future - color-match grill surround/bulge, mirror caps, handles, plasti-dip badges.
Couple of arguments for needing a truck even if you are prioritizing cabin space:

You can't haul a fridge in an SUV or minivan, and even if you could fit a snowblower, you wouldn't necessarily want something like that inside the vehicle. I went with a crewmax (traded in a Tacoma double cab) because my second kid just arrived February 1st and I needed to fit 2 car seats. I'm also a gigging drummer and can use the back seat to haul drum gear. There are those times where you just need to haul something dirty or too tall to fit in an SUV, so even a 5.5' bed is better than no bed at all. I'm a believer that if you own a home. You have to have a truck.

Another nice thing about the crewmax-it actually has fewer blind spots when turning your head to change lanes on the highway. The bigger back windows give you a much better view of your surroundings.

Well, I had a 16 2wd with a 4.6 and now an 18 4x4 with a 5.7. Under normal granny driving, they are very similar feel. I got about 2 MPG combined better with the 4.6. 16mpg vs 14mpg.

I just have to say how happy I am that I got my crewmax. Don’t even give two shits about the bed space. I’ve hauled plenty back there, just tie it down real nice and put a nice red flag.

The comfort people rave about when they sit in my backseat is such a good feeling. I just love my tundra and love it even more that it’s a CM!

I love the space I have it the CM. I never had a DC, but the CM fits my needs perfectly being a man of 6'5" and I'm sure my kid will get there as well. I also think the 5.7 is the way to go. You need a full size motor to go with your full size truck.

My dad has a 2014 dlb cab limited. Once I bought my 2016 CM, he said his next truck will be a CM. Getting my niece in her car seat is a pain in the a$$ in that double cab, not the crew max. I hunt, fish and camp. Not once have I felt I needed that extra foot in the bed vs the extra space in the cab.

The 5.7 is the way to go. You’ll never wish you had less power if you go with the 5.7 over the 4.6. Plus it’ll help you with resale. I’ve stretched my highway mileage once cruising at 68 mpg at 19.6, that was with the ac on. Granted I live in CA and we have mostly flat ground in the valley, but nonetheless...prettty impressive for the 5.7 on the highway. I can regularly get 18.5 mpg if I keep it under 70 mpg. City averages about 14.5 mpg.

Whatever model you end up choosing, just know you’ve already made the best decision possible by going with a Tundra as your 1/2 ton pickup if choice.

Agreed lol. Had a 1993 22RE and a 2004 Tacoma 2.4, both 5 speed, both 2wd stripper trucks. I swear that 22-RE had more grunt than the 2.4, you had to rev the nuts off that 2.4 to get any power.

The 4.6 in my Tundra with the automatic is nice though. Not crazy fast, but it at least gets out of its own damn way unlike those other two trucks I had.

As for double cab/crewmax, I wanted the bigger bed. I occasionally haul people in the back seat, maybe 3 or 4 times a month. I felt the back seat in the double cab was huge for that type of truck(way more leg room than a Chevy extended cab that I cross shopped), plus I like how the rear doors open conventionally, they aren't those stupid suicide doors like you get on a new Tacoma, new F150, or previous gen GM truck with a similar type cab. I also looked at a couple of reg cab Tundras, one was a contractor stripper V6 truck, the other was nicely optioned, 5.7 V8, bucket seats. Figured why in the hell would I buy a big truck with 2 seats that gets 15mpg????

What's again it all depends on your needs I have the double cab works fine for me I like a little longer bed if you've got kids you'll probably want the large Cab. The double work Works fine if you got passengers in your not going on a long haul there's enough room back there in a pinch to give somebody a ride.

They definitely both have pros and cons as far as utilitarian purposes.

Only thing that really can’t be argued is that DCs are just plain sexy.

Looked at 18 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport 4x4 V8 5.7L. Out the door price is $46.6K. The total MRSP is $48.6K. What is a fair/good deal? I love the truck but not sure I should pay for that price. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had a “crew cab “ version of Tacoma. Not really a choice, I have kids and a Great Dane. I hated the tiny useless bed. I got the double Tundra. Plenty of room in the back and a useful bed

for a couple hundred more i bought my limited trd offroad with the premium package. all you give up is hoodscoop and color matched front end but you gain lots of stuff inside.

a lot of ppl will say well i dont need this or need that.. ive always said that its better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. i thought i would be fine giving up memory seats and i regret not getting the platinum.

i know i know.. its one more thing that breaks... but roll up n down windows break too. manual door locks break and the all mighty engine upfront breaks too.. (minus ours of course)

dig deep into what your needs for the bed are. mine hauls strollers, fridges, snowblower, bikes, mulch, top soil, bird shit, pine cones, all my gear to my 3GN matches and have yet to wish for the longer bed. (im sure the day will come but hasnt yet) happy shopping either way you are getting a great vehicle that needs to work for you.

We can't really compare out the door price between all of us since that usually includes taxes and sometimes registration depending on where you live. The fairest comparison between members is base price + dealer fees.

I got the crewmax and yes. My grown kids have more legroom in the back than we do in the front. This was the main reason I bought it.

Flip the seats and you have more room for groceries than in most trunks.

Downside, shorter bed, but I have several trailers so I don't worry it. For lighter loads, I also have an older 4Runner which I also use to tow.
