A little of this and a little of that.

Matt, congrats! In this world most people your age are super sensitive, lazy, want something for free kind of people. Good to see someone willing to work for it! And yes, please save some of what you make not only for when it isn't shining but for retirement as well.

Thank you, ill be finding out about 401k as well :) and people my age really are, only a few are willing to work like i am. I have a group of friends (5) and we all know what we want and understand that we have to work for it and go get it. If you surround yourself with the right energy, you're bound to gain it

Resi is a good place to start, but keep an eye toward commercial and industrial. Very few resi electricians make really good money, and the market fluctuates a ton. The c&i guys make more money by a long shot. It is more dangerous, but the same rules apply.

I was going to post something last night, and I have about a half million things to do today, but it needs to be said.

I don’t know you personally, but I’m proud of your youthful enthusiasm. Remember your mindset drive right now, and you will bypass most.

Young people in blue collar work is getting harder to come by these days.

Work smart, never get complacent, live a fruitful life!

I agree completely. There are plenty of electricians out there, but in my experience maybe 30% are good ones. Good electricians get paid well, and have long careers. I get a lot of customers asking me if I know if anyone is looking for work. My usual answer is yes, I know a few, but none I’d recommend.

As someone who is finishing a Master's degree in Economics, I can honestly say college is not for everyone. If you enjoy being an electrician then go for it. You'll make plenty of money and enjoy life. If you like working with spreadsheets then go to college lol. In all seriousness. Congratulations on a solid career choice that will leave you with significantly less debt then I have, but will provide enough to enjoy life.

Good for you man, as a lot of people have said there will be a shortage of skilled labor in about 5-10 years. I'm seeing it already as a project manager for an electrical company. Younger generation would rather sit behind a computer than get their hands dirty...

I have a small commercial roofing company. Young people with that mind set are far and few between (or they don't exist anymore.) It will pay off. Just keep plugin. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely look at going this way. Work hard, be honest and get YOUR license. Do what you tell people you are going to do and the sky is the limit. Good luck young man.

I like how so many people act like today’s younger people are entitiled and lazy, implying that all of us were mature, responsible, and ready to jump in and work out ass off when we were 17.

You know what older generations are undoubtedly better at? Labeling people and being dismissive of large groups of them. I know a hell of a lot of people his age. I’ve never experienced the laziness or entitlement, or whatever people are saying. Of course, I take the time to get to know people, instead of getting my info from Minion posts on Facebook.
