Just bought a tundra and a toy hauler. Wondering if the trailer and truck are the right match. I have a 07 tundra 5.7 sr5 crewmax and the toy hauler weights 7200 dry. Tongue weight 1080 lbs. I have a 1200 - 1400 wd hitch.

Sure ! Lots of 1/2 ton Tundras pulling around that amount of weight. Will it pull it easy ? Depends how high you can tolerate your rpm”s..

From the specs you attached. Combining the dry weight with payload, you could be towing almost 11,000 lbs (the GVWR spec is slightly higher)

With that kind of weight, you better have the tow package (trans cooler especially). Even then, you are most likely at or exceeding the towing capacity of your truck. And that’s without considering how much stuff you plan to carry in the truck.

You need to find out your truck’s towing capacity as well as the Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). The GCWR is the spec which tells you the max weight of truck and trailer combined.

Hitch it up, load the truck and trailer as if you are traveling ( including passengers) and take to CAT scale. At the scale you get a weighing for each truck axle and both trailer axles combined (total of 3 individual weights) when you pull onto the platform. You should also unhitch in parking lot and weigh the truck alone. If you have a smart phone, download the CAT scale app and use it. It’s tough to press the intercom button at the scale as it is at semi-trailer cab height.

Sorry not to give you a definitive answer but it’s not that simple

Thanks guys. I’ve towed the camper twice. Once when I bought it only 15 mins away. Another time 25 mins away. The engine seemed to handle the weight fine. I didn’t have the weight distribution hitch then. I just got that in the mail. I hoping that will help with the truck squatting. I have a trans temp gauge that I will pay attention to. I just don’t want to beat my truck to bad.

The CAT scale is also best for setting up WD hitch. Will let you know how much weight is being put back onto the front axle

Alternative is to measure wheel wells with no trailer and then with trailer. Adjust WD so that wheel wells have similar height differential that you had with no trailer. You want both front and rear to squat so the truck is level

This and my prior post are very simplistic, there is a lot more to it. Search around the web for more detail. A good place to start is the Can-Am RV website. http://www.canamrv.ca/

Pretty heavy. That tongue weight would concern me....

Toy haulers are always tongue heavy. Throw that 800 lbs Harley in the back and you won't have tongue wt issues.
