There are like 100,000 public schools in America. If you put 2 armed guards at each school and pay each a salary of $50k, that would cost America $10,000,000,000 a year. Yes, that's billions. Not gonna happen. Same with metal detectors.

Regardless, I think they could find the money. My wife works for the government, and I sell to government entities. They don’t exactly make great financial decisions.

What are there, approx 120 million taxpayers in the US? That comes to about 84 dollars each per year. I’d have no problems with that.

They could find the money... but they never do. My kid's schools are so over crowded now, the Jr. High School doesn't even have enough lockers for the kids so no one gets one. They have to carry around all their books all day long. So ridiculous.

I know we need to keep religion off of this forum, but there is something to the fact that when this country was more religious we did not have nearly as much of this kind of junk going on. This is where moral relativity is getting us. A second point is the two income home. With both parents gone, no one is there to instill proper values, and when parents are there, they typically feel guilty about working so much they let the kids run wild. My wife worked in child care before we had kids and I saw this all of the time. Lastly, parents want to be their children's friend these days, which compounds the do whatever you want mentality.

all of this but religion. i still stand by that it has nothing to do with it. there are larger, much larger, societal issues. americans take them to an extreme.

being a parent is work. massive work. very few people i know accept that. you can see it everywhere. after school pick ups are the worst.

totally. again, having been deep into this for the past few months, i can attest. it's all fubar'd.

my daughter's HS has a specific program for reintegrating kids that have gone out and been hospitalized. think about that. they had to create a reintegration program because so many kids were being hospitalized. eating disorders, suicide attempts, self harm. i can't wrap my head around it. you'd think, if they had to create the program, they'd take a step back and look at the larger picture but, no, the program is really there to cover their asses so parents won't sue the school district.

"Being a parent is hard work" - Understatement of the century. People take it for granted, but it is not easy. You have to be stronger in will then your kids, you have to guide them while teaching them to think for themselves. You also have to teach them how to constructively deal with their emotions, which is getting harder in a society that is controlled by emotion.
Also, to clarify, the religion bit was neither pro nor anti religion. The statement was meant to point out that we had a different moral code as a society when the country was more religious. That moral code really ties into the differences in parenting techniques from then to today. Some are much better now, and some are much worse. Just food for thought about societal values.

If they can put 50 in the courthouses, they can put a couple in the schools....and don't get me started on all the financial support being wasted on people who have never and will never contribute to society yet keep on multiplying like rats.
Priorities need to be set. The answer for school shootings is simple.

A little of this and a little of that.
People have a problem with accepting responsibility for our own actions. People will blame the school district, guns, TV, too much video games, iPhones/Androids etc. Most tend to blame anything and everything except ourselves for our own circumstances and actions.

I believe this is a direct result of how the kid who did the shooting was raised. No value for human life? WTH is wrong w/ people?

But you’re implying that without religion people can’t have rules or morals. On that, I call BS. My kids have plenty of rules and morals and none of us have ever stepped into a house of worship nor will we. It goes back to the fundamentals of parenting. With that, I’m stepping out before I get a t-rex vacation. Like I said earlier, religion is highly polarizing. More so than politics in some respects.

I see what you mean about my implication. I am not trying to convey that at all, just making an observation about society now vs. 70 years ago and how the values changed during that time, with a possible explanation. However, I agree that religion is polarizing, so I will drop it now as well.

Much love @smslavin, hope I did not offend. Just glad we can talk and share our Tundra passion.

None taken my friend. I am in a very specific, slightly dark place these days and a lot of these issues (minus religion ) have been having serious impact on my family’s life and well being. Apologies if I came out swinging.

Came home and gave my son a great big hug and cried. I let him know that he can always talk to us anytime about anything. Also reminded him to be nice to everyone and take up for those picked on or bullied; something we have always encouraged.

I come from small town area, but don't most inner City schools have them already? Maybe not security, even though every school over a certain size here seems to already have security on campus, but metal detectors should be a standard. With this zero tolerance policy they have I am not surprised the TSA isn't at schools.

Man I miss the good old days. We'd all have our guns in our gun racks at school cause as soon as out of school or even on lunch break we'd go hunting. Was Columbine the first school shooting? Cause growing up I never heard of school shootings.

Columbine wasn't even close to the first school shooting. There have been shootings for many, many years. Even back in the "good old days"

You can buy a doorway metal detector for 900.00, and depending on how you set up the entryway, lock the person in question inside until they can be "checked"....

My kids school is kinda like that right meow.
