no one wants to hear about your parts and pieces.

scarpa is a great boot. used the teleski boot for years. most comfortable ski boot i've ever had. i'm currently in asolo hikers but might try the scarpas if these ever wear out.

I have been hiking in Solomon boots but my last hike they started hurting my ankle for some reason after about 10 miles so switched to a pair of trail shoes i had packed and hiked 35 miles without another problem.

I looked at Solomon but then the person at the store pointed/directed me to the scarpas and I was sold.

    What’s everyone using for hydration?

I carry a camelbak bladder filled before I head out. I also have a life straw and life straw bottle and carry purifying tablets as a backup.

Anybody had good luck with the larger capacity filter systems meant for camping/hiking?

My riding pack is an Osprey. I’ll also use it for hikes if I’m not carrying a bunch of camera gear. I have 2 and 3 liter bladders for it. I have a small and a large camera pack and share a 3 liter bladder between them. I’ll use the same bladder in my ski pack.

I’ve got tablets in the truck but also carry a Katadyn Pocket Microfilter pump filter. It’s pretty bulletproof.

    https://www.katadyn.com/us/us/470-8013618-katadyn-pocket_usa

It’s good for up to 3 people so I should really grab a bigger one.

MSR Elixir 3 for our tent. Decent enough size for two of us and can be split between packs or used in ultra-light mode for hiking.

Hydration packs, I use a Camelback type made by Mountain Equipment Co-op for mtn biking and a Goruck Bullet for day hikes.

Use a Camelback 3 liter and have a Katadyn, life straw and tablets. Have only had to use the life straw.

After a couple excursions up in the UP of Michigan to The Porkies and Pictured Rocks, I found out how much difference socks make when hiking.

The first time we went, neither of us knew enough to look into the type of socks for hiking. Both of us ended up with some dandy blisters during the trip.

The next trip my buddy and I both had about 40lbs in our packs with him wearing normal socks and I had on smart wool. Needless to say, he was hurting and developed blisters.

I made it through without one and I can honestly say that I believe the socks contributed.

So yes, socks are important to gear as well in my opinion.

No experience with it, but based on the reviews, it seems legit. If you try it out, let us know how it works out!

Yeah Smart Wool is all i wear hiking and never had a blister. Damn that looks like a big tent to backpack with. I guess that is why you were looking at a new one. 40lbs seems like a lot. I was 24lbs before water on my last hike- i added 3L bladder and carried a 1 liter bottle. I think I can still get that down a few lbs cause last trip I brought too much food that wasn't eaten.

Yes, the tent I had at that time was on the heavier side as well, but I also over packed being the whole backpacking was new. I will definitely be getting it down now as I have figured more things out.

I have the MSR windburner stove but haven't use any pans- mostly because they are super expensive for that stove. But thinking about buying a set.

Yeah, I've thought about getting pans too, but that just means one more thing to carry (weight/space) and clean. I figured I can boil water in the jet boil and live off mountain house for a couple of days. If I'm car camping, then I just use household pans.
