Mother's Day coming up soon, my wonderful wife has hinted for some cookware. Looking for recommendations on a full set for the Semi-Pro Chef (want-a-be), LOL.

We have had a Caphalon set for about 10-12 years, Hard Anodized Aluminium non-stick, has served really well. Maybe $350ish when purchased. The set is in good usable shape, the non-stick surface is compromised on all of the pans.

Looking for slight upgrade, maybe SS or All-clad. $500-600 range if possible.

    Thanks,

Not trying to be funny as this is serious business we are talking here, but you’d be surprised at the pans available from your local grocery. We have a Harris Teeter here that sells some nice non-stick pan (brownish orange) sets for way under your budget proposed. Been cooking with the newer technology pans for a while now. Our first purchased (pilot test) single pan ($25) lasted about 2 years of multiple daily use. After a few months testing went and bought some bigger ones.

just like 'steel is real', so is cast iron. can't go wrong with an item or two, or a set, of le creuset. a dutch oven and one of the grill skillets would be my recommendation. williams sonoma or sur la table would be your best bet for picking something up.

All clad is great, but a set will run 850-1k not 5-600. You could buy 2-3 new pans, keep the old pots, because you can’t wear out a pot and Add a high end cast iron (Le Crueset) and you are set.

We had Caphalon and was a great set and lasted pretty good too. Now we just do what @Professional Hand Model said and buy grocery ones. Use, throw away and buy again as needed. I used to get pissed when family would come over and treat the expensive cookware like shit not understanding that it costs us around $500-$600. We had to have 2 sets of cookware, hide the good ones when they came over and bring out the crappy ones while they were in town. Yeah, not doing that again.

Funny, I was just going to say Le Creuset is good, but you would hit your budget quickly. I love the cast iron that we have too. It's a little heavy for my wife, but she uses the dutch oven a lot. And cast iron is fairly inexpensive.

I have 1 all clad pan. Couldn’t afford more than that lol. It’s awesome. Plan to scrape some change and buy some more one of these days.
