    The prices they charge though..

We're starting a custom trailer build this Summer with a design we're figuring out how to patent. Hopefully, if it all works out, we can sell them cheaper; they won't be as feature-packed as far, such as kitchen-ware because we want to leave that up to the customer to outfit with their own products to make their trailer unique. The design hasn't been done anywhere we've seen and we've been following trailers here in the States and across in Australia.

Agree, nice but really, really pricey. I would be just as happy adding a bed rack and roof top tent

I grew up with these Venter trailers in South Africa. They are now available in the USA and Canada. The website does not show prices (I guess since it fluctuates with currency exchange rates), but from what I remember they are quite a bit cheaper (less expensive) than the Turtleback trailers. Very durable - built for Africa.

    Several different models available.

These are what I wanted but way to much money for my blood :(
I almost ordered a RTT today. But keep telling myself I need to wait.

A big advantage to NOT using the rooftop tent is setting up a base camp and taking off for day trips. I have used a modified 8’ pop up tent trailer for years. 1 slide out, 2 awnings, dual battery, solar panel, Q size bed, outside grill & screen room.

Already bought a camper, which I do love. But just in case a RTT would be nice if there is a time that getting back to the camper isnt an option, or if I know I am going where the camper cant go...which happens !!

My 2 little social butterflys are too apt to hang out in the pop up trailer instead of outdoors, at least the older one is. My wife likes sleeping on the ground, that's her idea of camping. The compromise for us is the trailer w/ RTT. Funny part of that compromise is that we've agreed on it but I've not been granted permission to spend the funds.... LOL Gotta love being married.:)

I agree with you though, lots of options and lots to think carefully about.

It would be really awesome if you could package something that works well and doesn’t cost a fortune! Good luck developing your set up. You definitely know how it needs to work.

Pop-ups are great if you're destination camping, staying in one place for a few days, but they suck if you're road tripping across multiple states headed to a different destination every day. Up, down, up, down...

We had one for 18 years and used the crap out of it and really enjoyed it for the most part. Have tons of great family memories using it but, at this point I don't think we'd get another one. To many times packing crap up in the rain only to have to set it all up again to dry out when you get home. That sucks. 60mph Wind storm in the dunes out by Yuma one night I thought the canvas was going to leave the trailer. The 4 of us moved to the Trooper about 1am to ride it out. That sucked.

RTT's are pretty cool but I don't want to do the setup/teardown thing anymore. Park and throw out some chairs and have a beer is more my style these days.

It's all about compromise and what fits what you want to do, I suppose. Some kind of small hardside would be nice. I like the fiberglass ones.

The wife and I are going to hit the Overland Expo in a couple of weeks to check out some other options.

When push comes to shove this is what I really want. When we camp, water tends to be the destination more often than not. Camp in it when it's on the trailer and camp in it when your on the water. Best of both worlds.
