My new Tundra has no undercoating, just the factory black paint. With Toyotas rust issues in the past, this has me a little concerned. Have y'all or do y'all have any input?

Where do you live? If it snows a lot and the roads get covered with salt, do it. If you're in AZ or CA, somewhere warm and dry, it'd be a waste of money.

Richmond Va, we don't get a lot, but some 5-6 times a winter.

Well currently have the Tundra 2002 4WD and have not experienced the nightmares of rust and frame replace stories that the 1st Gen was notorious for. I guess I got lucky? Never undercoated. Rinsed occasionally.

Bottom line is if you are worried and want piece of mind AND you have the money to pay a pro to do it then go ahead and do it! It won’t hurt. If you are DIY, grab a couple cans of truck liner from big box and have fun.

I lived in Chesapeake and I would 100% recommend you get it. You may think that the little weather you get might not warrant getting it, but I assure you you will be disappointed after about 2 winters. Just my experience and .02

Just something to think about......if the undercoating is applied correctly it will be moisture trapp and makes things worst. I think the key to rust prevention is to run it through a carwash which washes the undercarriage and get the salt off. I stop at a carwash every time after they use salt here.
Look on the bright side, at least Toyota, unlike the big three, paints the entire undercarriage. We are already ahead of the game the way I see it.

I agree. My last truck was an F-150 and I was shocked at the shoddy paint on the underside. I don’t even think they bothered painting the rear differential

I’ve heard that too with any vehicle so I don’t undercoat them. I take them to manual washes and power the undercarriage through the winter. When it’s warm enough, I jack the front then the back and do the same, except more thorough in my driveway.

They probably figured it would be in a scrapyard before the rust started.:notsure::D

I was thinking the same thing about the trapping of moisture.
    Thanks for the replies
