TRD Pro Wheels?

Do the center caps pop off easily, or must you take the tire off and pop them off from the back?

 

They pop off very easy. So easy, I don't know how they stay on.

 

Got it, so similar to my 2000 4Runner. So, just a little prying with a screwdriver, or a plastic trim moving tool?

 

You don't even need that... just pull them off with your hands.

Bfg KO2 comes in a 305/65 r18 size that I wish I knew about when I bought my 275/70 r18s.
They are roughly the same diameter (less than a ¼ inch difference) and the 305 is just over an inch wider. I think those tires would look a lot better. The 275 look too thin imo from a few specific angles. Fortunately I'm not looking at those angles often but every once in awhile I'll catch a glimpse and I'm just like "man, wish I went a little wider".

@PermaFrostTRD I couldn't agree more, I am in the same boat as you with the 275/70 BFG's... just a little too slim, better than stock for sure but... not have stock Michelin tires with 4,000 miles on them that I can't seem to sell for the life of me and then would like to go to 305's but don't $3k + worth of tires laying around.... I guess in 60K miles I can make that decision...

Has anyone powdercoated those mills TRD wheels all black? I'd love to see how they came out.

 

I powdercoated mine matte black. And then painted the center caps with rattle can matte black. The little plastic center pops out, I kept that gloss black.

 

I purchased my TRD rims on Craigslists and had them power coated with a low gloss black. They painted the hubcaps to match. I had them leave the Toyota Emblem Chrome to match the rest of the chrome on our Toy. They are wrapped with GoodYear DuraTracs 275/65/R18. I love how they turned out! Debating on going with black lugs or not. Let me know what you all think! BTW- Great Forum!

 

Do custom wheel manufacturers use the powder coating process? I would like it powder coat my stock TRD wheels and just concerned about longevity.

 

Cerakote would be an option if really wanted to go gunmetal. It is certainly durable and only has to be baked at 180 as opposed to 400 for powder coating.

 

I purchased some used wheels today, did yours look like these ? i too want to get them powder coated and would like to know how much it costs to get a quality coating put on the wheel, thanks in advance

 

Yes! They looked exactly like that. I paid a lot more from a reputable place. I paid 150.00 a rim which included them painting the caps to match the low gloss rims. They can’t powder coat the plastic caps.

 

does low gloss match the pro wheels?

 

I believe the TRD Pro are more a high gloss. The low gloss went better with all the other black on my Toy, plus it hides dirt and brake dust better.

Did they take off the emblem to paint the caps?
