I’ve been eyeing that Wilwaukee power wrench. Is that the 3/8 Rachet Fuel?
Do you know what’s the difference w the fuel and can you remove bolts manually with those?

Nice job and good video! I’m impressed with how little frustration you let show while you went through the learning curve on the bolt retaining clips. Looks like that took almost 1/2 your time.

The rachet is 3/8 but not the Fuel version. I have both 1/4 and 3/8. The tightening power is good but loosening power is not that good. Sometimes I have to turn it manually to get it started.
I think the Fuel version has smaller motor, more power, and if I'm not mistaken they are also using less power than the none fuel version.

Thanks. That's right "bolt retaining clips" for the life of me I coudn't remember what they were called. Yes, that part took the longest.

    Thanks

View from driver's side for reference. Front differential drain plug is accessible w/o removing the plate.

I go with one of these M18 for more torque. The smaller one has 3 level torque settings. Good compact size and much lighter than the bigger one. The bigger one is a beast. I dont use it that much.

Maybe a 3/8 rachet fuel and an m18 1/2 impact.

Do you think the TRD skid plate makes the truck more aerodynamic and improving MPG? :D

Anyone else do this? Do you need to order the hardware kit? Any better options out there? About to change my oil and I don’t want to have to r&r the skid plate every time. TIA

While I understand the desire to not remove the skid plate I would gently point out that the removal of the skid plate does allow you, the DIY owner, the chance for an extended "eyes on" the underside of your engine. A good ole fashioned look around.

For me, I've been removing Toyota truck skid plates since 1986 so it's second nature. And, again, I want to look around while I'm on my back down there. The standard Tundra steel skid plate is a pain compared to my other trucks (1986 truck with steel plate, 4 bolts, 1997 T-100 truck, still have, plastic skid plate with 4 bolts).

Good point about visual inspection. If I had it to do over again, I would not have bought the TRD skid plate. Not only was it insanely expensive for what it is, but since the install I have been taking it to the dealer for oil changes anyway, so the vision of an access door to the oil filter was a waste of money in my case.

In a series of misdiagnosed belt-related issues, which turned out to be a bad tensioner, I have had the pleasure of taking the TRD skid plate on and off to swap the belt a few times and the 30 secs it took me to swap the belt, removing and reinstalling the TRD skid plate makes a quick belt swap a total pain in the ass.

In that series of thinking I was buying poor quality belts, I had a Toyota dealer swap in a belt and they completely dicked up the rear hardware mounting to include losing one of the rear aluminum mounting sleeves. The skid plate started making a loud popping noise. I am good at removal and install now;) I went as far to add some rubber padding on the metal-to-metal contact areas, but mostly its about properly using the supplied mounting hardware. Although, its BS that the TRD skid has metal-to-metal contact...Toyota should supply some sort of nylon/rubber bushings.

I'd be happy to work a deal with someone who wants a TRD skid and I would take their stock skid plate. No I wont ship it...too big.

Pissed that I threw away the stock skid, otherwise I would have swapped it out and sold off the TRD skid already.

    Thanks for the reply

I was debating to get the trd pro skid or rci.
However the rci does not cover the whole under frame as suppose to the trd pro skid plates

That goes without saying, I'll bet OP gets 19-20MPG now. The RCI skid plate is even better, guaranteed 22 MPG
