I have searched forum after forum, and watched countless videos, and I can't find anyone that explains this step: What do I remove next, to expose the axle nut? I need to confirm the torque on my front axle nuts, but I can't get to them. Every video shows some nice large dust cover, when removed exposes the nut. If mine has a dust cap, it's about the size of a silver dollar and recessed. Is that it? Do I destroy it to get it out? Thanks for your help. I'm in a real time crunch and this has wasted nearly 12 hours.
How do I get beyond this and reach the axle nut?

The pictures you're referring to with the big dust caps are for a 4wd version with CV axles. Not sure how the front hubs are assembled on a 2wd version but not surprised there are no axle nuts

Thanks. That would mean that the Lock Nut (shown in the attached diagram) on the inside of the steering knuckle is what holds the Axle Hub onto the truck?
