I am a new Toyota Tundra owner, have owned 3 Chevrolet Silverados in the past and tired of the continual minor problems. I am now a first time Tundra owner, purchased a new 2018 Tundra 1794 series, loving it so far except the sunroof, and the two recalls I have already received.

I have a question on my Sunroof. When I drive with the Sunroof open the black windbreaker bar across the front of the opening (not sure what this part is called) that goes up and down when you open or close the sunroof. The problem is while I am driving the car every two minutes, this windbreak bar will go up automatically without me touching any buttons. I can hear the motor and if I lay my hand on the bar in the opening I can feel it go up. Then another 2-3 minutes later it will go back down, and so on keep repeating the entire time I am driving the car, up and down. The noise is driving me crazy so that I don't want to use the sunroof any more.

The Toyota dealer says this is normal operation, I call baloney on this. No way this should go up and down every two minutes for no perceived reason (I am not stopped at a light or any other major change in driving pattern).

Can other 2018 owners with Sunroofs please confirm how it should work ? Is this normal or not ? Is there a setting to turn this 'feature' off ?

    Thank you!

I have a 2013 - the wind break will go up and stay up until you're driving 45mph at which point it goes down. Then it stays down until you decrease to 40mph. Or maybe it's the opposite?? I don't remember - it's still cold here so I haven't used the sunroof in a while except for Tilt Open.

Either way it shouldn't operate based on time.

I also have a 13 and same function based off speed. It annoyed me at first but I do not notice it any more.

When it's up take your hand and press it down, you will notice a lot more wind noise if just the sun roof is open. It's there to help reduce the noise and In mine does a pretty good job.

    Welcome.

It’s a normal thing, they all do it. It used to break the air so it doesn’t sound like a helicopter, while still allowing air to flow through.

Open the sunroof and the rear window at the same time, best part about tundras.

My '18 1794 does the same thing. Dealer replaced some parts last summer, but that didn't help. Took it in today for signal light recall and was told by the tech they now consider it normal operation........Whatever....
