    We are just about ready to go, just waiting on the weather and trees to be perfect.
    Today I spent some time at the sugar shack going over the pans and evaporator needed to re-cement and grout a few firebricks but all set now. I split some more wood and got the new firebox grates installed. I decided i want to add 3 feet of smoke stack this year, still trying to track down a 3 or 4 foot section of 10" stainless stove pipe. Hard to find that size so I may need to order online the idea is more stack should provide more draw, so the back pan should cook a little better and faster. I currently have 15' which is bare minimum for an 8' evaporator. Hope to have it all together next weekend and tap trees the following weekend.

    I was able to track down a deal on a scrap piece of 10" stainless pipe. It was cut to the wrong size on a job from a semi local chimney company. But works for me, 34" is good enough and it was only $40 compared to 110 plus shipping for a 36" piece.
    I climbed up and removed the stack, hauled it down and added the new piece and the flip up cover to it. Climbed back up and got it all back in place. Need to add some braces soon though. Its sokid but pretty tall. That thing was awkward and heavy but I survived.

    Oh and have been working on the wood supply lately since I got the wood splitter. There's about 4 cords of skinny split hardwood under that tyvek sheet. Still have about 6 cords of logs that can be split, will work on it as we are cooking. Last year we burned 5 cords.

    The weather looks like it's taking a turn this weekend. I have a few extra hands around this weekend so looks like we'll be taping trees Saturday and Sunday. We should have our first syrup of the season this time next week!

    Got 150 taps out today and everything hooked up and ready to go, they were dripping really well today . Should get 100+ gallons of sap tomorrow afternoon and then fire up the evaporator to boil.
    Tomorrow morning I have a few holding tanks to set up and the season is underway.

    Tomorrow is going to suck. Forecast is 45 and rain all day. Nothing like hauling buckets of sap through the muddy woods in that weather. I'm hoping my new holding / transfer tank idea works out at one grove of trees that we have about 50 trees taped.
    I'll try and get some pictures tomorrow. We were hustling today to beat the rain, we almost did but got soaked the last 20 or so taps.
