IMG_0010.jpg They are coming to the house today to install a new windshield on the the Tundra. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of during and after the install.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
    1. carefully look around the windshield for paint damage or excess primer.
    2. Look on the outside and inside for excessive urethane squish. (this is what glues the windshield in place).
    3. Look for A-pillar trim and headliner damage.
    4. When you drive listen for excessive wind noise and carefully watch around the inside the next time you go thru a care wash. It is not uncommon to have a windshield leak. This will appear as either water on the floor board, or water on the headliner / a pillar.
    5. After the windshield has set (couple days later). Very lightly push on the inside edges, DO NOT PUSH HARD you can break the glass by pushing too hard. you are just looking for adhesion issues where the glue may not have adhered to the glass or body.
    6. test your wipers to make sure they were correctly positioned.

This is correct - depending on the region your truck is from it could be all Tundras. If you have heated side mirrors you probably have a heated windshield.
    Hope that helps.

Look in front of the steering wheel and u will see the crack curving up. It runs all the way to the passenger side A pillar.
It wasn't there before our cold snap and 4" of snow...cleaned the snow off and there it was so I'm not sure what happened.

You probably took a rock in the black band. Look along the path of the crack and look for some small impact. IF there was no impact go to your Toyota dealer and have it covered under warranty.

It's a 2014 so I'm not sure it's covered under warranty but insurance pays 100%.

You would have a heated windshield. There just isn't way to really tell until you pull the wipers and cowl off.
It looks like you have a 1794. Yes you would have a heated windshield.

Watch the plastic cowling between the hood and windshield. The wipers are located on it. My 2014 was pushed below the windshield half way across. Saw it 3 weeks after purchase used. Toyota replaced it but would have cost $650. Don't let em f it up.

How do you know if wipers are not correctly positioned? I had mine replaced and I get a little clunk noise when the wipers return.. cannot figure out why, but haven't spent a ton of time on it as there is no moisture here..

    pull the wiper arms off.
Turn on the wipers you should see the posts twist.
See if the clunk persists. (If so you will need to turn them off and pull the cowl to see if the wiper motors are contacting anything)
turn off wipers so they return to home.
    turn off truck.
    re attach the wiper arms.
see if the wipers still make the sound.

The wipers have a fixed range of motion so if they are attached to the post either too low or too high they will impact the cowl or the a-pillar of the truck respectively.

    hope that helps.

I'm almost positive that's going to be it. I checked all the small visible stuff and even replaced the wipers. I really appreciate the info. I'll check tonight and report back!

PGW (brand) is the OEM provider for the Tundra windshield.
I Doubt the dealer would install "Toyota" branded glass but an aftermarket could be a "PGW" which would be the same as OEM just without the Toyota logo.
The brand of glass depends on who is doing the install and who their provider is. OEM is always going to be more expensive because Toyota wants their $ too.

The major brands would be XYG, PGW, and Pilkington. Personally I prefer Pilkington due to their quality standards but any brand can be OEM for a given vehicle just depends on who gets the contract.

one more thing to look out for is a distortion in the glass. along the edges (band bend in the glass) or in the middle (If there was a scratch at some point someone in the supply chain could buff the scratch out). These distortions can be like looking thru a fishbowl and annoying.

Probably depends more on who is paying for the install. Most insurance companies only cover aftermarket glass.

    This is true.
I've seen some insurance policies and customers dictate the use of "OEM" glass but not very often.

They put in the PGW brand...I watched the total process and the guy did a professional job from what I have seen...told me to let it set for about 30 min then I'm good to go.

I need a new windshield too. Might just do that after my truck gets all fixed up.
