I have a 3 week old '18 CrewMax and the A/C is marginal at best. When warmed up, A/C set on 68 (what I set my wife's Sequoia to on my side) and it is still blowing warm air. At 70, it is blowing hot air. Set to "Lo", it get's down to what I think is 68-70 in the Sequoia.

It's at the dealer now. I bought from a dealer about an hour away, so... here we go.

Dealer guy who took me to my backup car said he's seen Tacoma's come in with low Freon from the factory but never a Tundra. I'm not to sure how I'll react to "topped the Freon off... it was low from the factory". I wont buy it, that's for sure.

Anyone a half-full kind of personality that can help me be optimistic about this?

I bought my 2017 in March, in Texas, right before summer. Coming off a 10 year old Tacoma where I never had an issue with the A/C, I was disappointed in the A/C of my Tundra. I'm a smoker, so I always leave the windows cracked with re-circ OFF. I have dials, so I don't know what the temp is supposed to be, but it was never as cold as I like. When I put it on Max is the only time it gets a little colder, but then it forces re-circ ON. Plus the moisture that builds up on the silver rings could fill a water bottle!

I also think I have a problem with by dampers because I always have to have heat on my feet, but even at that setting, warm air is coming thru the dash vents! Not much, but enough to annoy me..of course didn't test the heater until a couple months ago.

I wouldn't take any crap about the HVAC system on a brand new vehicle. If it has problems now, it will never be perfect and end up being way costly down the road. Good luck!

I don't believe it's a common problem. I haven't seen it on here before, unless I missed it.

I would imagine they will get it where it should be.

My thing is, if it is low... why is it low? Freon is regulated by the EPA, I would assume the factory is dialed in on where their freon goes and probably have a lbs/VIN somewhere in their system, especially Toyota. They probably even have to report any significant discrepancies over time. I work in a pharma-esque environment, so I see similar levels of quality and Toyota is known for their quality systems.

If it is low and it isn't from the factory, filling it up isn't going to help the real problem. There's a leak somewhere.

Just got word... not low, but still pumped it full off freon. We'll see how it goes.

Also had a "clunk" as I takeoff after cranking the car. Only once, after I start the car, only when I go forward the first time each trip. They said "normal", ABS kicking on. Anyone concur? They said "drive another, same noise happens, normal".

same here but only when I backup since I always have to back out the driveway first. it also happens on the rare occasion when I drive forward out of spot. this also happened on the 2016 Tacoma. since it only happens once after sitting awhile its inherent to the design of the truck. sorta like the air injection pump on the 4unner and Tacoma that runs randomly during the night sitting in the garage.

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
I am not sure what the noise is but my 2007 does this as well. It has always done it since I purchased it.

The "clunk" noise is totally normal—just your ABS self-test. Does it only happen once right when you start driving at around 10-15mph? My '18 does it, as well as my old '04 and '05 Titans.

Just hit the Recirc button and turn off. I rarely use recir. Use it too much and it will destroy the filter.

So far that is the only complaint

I have with my heater. I can put it on full floor and still get some from the dash vents. Same with full defrost. It's like the doors aren't closing all the way. Not blowing hard but enough for me to notice it.

Same here. Every morning i back out of the driveway, put it in drive and pull forward, and then "clunk"...never hear it again till the truck gets put in reverse then back into drive. This doesnt sound like an abs test to me, more like a bind of some sort on drivleine or something mounted to the chassis binding then popping.

Where do you live that you have to use A/C in January?

SC, it hit 70 this weekend, but even before the heat was so warm that I was backing off of it and didn't hit comfy until down in the low 60s.

I think this is part of the real problem. The passenger side was set in the mid 70s and I bet it was bleed over.

    None. Keeping this one stock.
Pop your cabin filter, look and see if it has leaves/pine needles, etc... They get dirty, quick.

I don' have dual zone. It just bleeds through from somewhere. Not a big deal really, just annoying.

Glass half full? Incorrect. Glass was engineered to large for the current capacity.

Both of my Tacomas did this along with Fords. I think it is has been this way since auto makers went to electronic blend doors.
