2018 Honeycomb Grille Paint Help

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone has painted the honeycomb part of their 2018 grille? I'm thinking of painting my a matte black to match the front black plastic on the front valance. My questions are:

1) Anyone know the color code for the black part of the front valance? Or did you just go with any matte black paint?

2) I called a local paint shop and they said in order for the paint to stick they would have to sand the entire part of the honeycomb and told me that could get expensive because of the time it would take to sand in between all the honeycombs. Does that sound correct? I'm thinking the guy I talked to at the paint shop might not know exactly what these grilles look like and the material they are made of.

You could get the grille media blasted and then paint it yourself with etching primer and your choice of color. Just make sure that the primer and color coat are compatible with the plastic.

With that said, I think the dark grey looks pretty good and will be more resistant to chips, I wouldn't mess with it.

 

I think it might be better to just buy the base SR Honey Comb grill which is black.

 

There's bumper and trim paint at the auto stores. It's matte black. Wonder if it would match.

 

Have you considered spray bed liner? It will stick to most surfaces with minimal prep and will be a lot more resistant to rock chips.

 

I did mine with a Bullet Liner. Word of caution it will add weight obviously. After I did mine it wasn't long I had to replace my hood struts. Something to think about.
