Color matched bumper end cap thread.

I work at a bodyshop...sanded mine with 80 grit on an orbital 3" sander.....than wiped down with Dupont water based cleaner....sprayed self-etch primer ....followed by sealer....followed by color and clearcoat

 

i am getting mine done by a body shop in 2 weeks. i went to several shops and nobody wanted to do it but they referred me to a guy that paints a lot of chrome. he media blasts it lightly to rough up the finnish and then primes and paints. i am going to get him to do both bumpers, my mirror caps, 2 door handles, hood bulge, and the surround of a trd pro grill and swap it out. He said $500 for all of it. I have a sliver sky and couldn't get the grill in that color.

 

that looks great, i think i will get him to my center also.

I got mine from a seller on Ebay (tctwrapsllc). Yes i did emove the bumper end caps, but read where a lot of people said they didnt.

Opinions on painting the center bumper piece or leaving black? I tend to feel like the painted center is "too matched"?

I have an 18 MGM 1794 and the center piece is that "mystery" gray that comes on the SR's. I'd be replacing the chrome bumper caps with MGM and getting a new unpainted center. Eventually a Pro grill and hood bulge when the new one gets released.

 

Did you end up getting rid of those end caps or do you still have them?

 

I'm headed to a local Gatorwraps next week or two to have my 4 end caps wrapped.

 

What are they charging? I was quoted 294.

Interested in the same question. Just bought my cement color crewmax limited last week. I hate the chrome! It's gots to go!!

 

Color x labs I think is the name makes a cement colored vinyl

 

They charge $100 A cap. He said they raised their price because apparently they are a pain in the ass to wrap. But he gave me a cool guy discount of 300+tax.

 

Do your door handles and mirror caps at the same time if you can

 

I wish I had had my center painted matte black when I had the corners done.

 

How long do you think it will take to swap the fronts? the rears? The wife is gone this week for work and i'm wondering if i swap these over two evenings after work?

I bought a 5' x 3' roll and proceeded to completely waste half of it on a failed attempt to wrap my end caps. But the color matches perfectly.

It really shouldn't have been that hard, but I think I was rushing it and it was too cold.

In the end I ordered painted end caps. I should have just done this originally. Buy once, cry once.

 

With a blue '14 you still have contrast with the silver center. I'm forced repaint or replace if I want to match the caps because otherwise it'd look like a bad MGM match in the center

I looked at the pics of your new truck and now I know what you mean...is that center piece a color match or just a weird grey? I guess it just all come down to your personal taste. Just to throw a idea by you, maybe you could plastidip it black...if you don't like it you can peel it off.

 

It's a weird gray. I asked Roman about it and he said it's the mystery gray that came on certain trims and years that Toyota doesn't even supply a paint code for. Dip is a good idea.

I am the opposite of this thread and looking to swap out my rear color matched for chrome to match the front bumper.

 

My SR5 has factory chrome rear caps. I was going to swap them with plastic but after reading this thread I think I'm going to get them blasted and painted too match.
