    Not any more!
Believe it or not I have a little bit of shop experience. But I've never yet had to pull the cab or body off of a vehicle like this!
    I still love Toyota's too.

Appears to be progressing nicely, good job.

Just think, if you were a Ford diesel guy from the 6L days, you’d have a few hundred of these jobs under your belt by now. Lifting the cab is a standard part of a “6L full service.” :p

Are you going to post a pic of any leftover hardware?

I ended up in this thread after looking at a truck in copart where the cab was completely distroyed so it made me wonder if anybody has every replaced a cab or removed it for whatever reason.
I read this thread and now I feel this thread is half complete and some questions left un answered. How hard was it to lift the cab, can it be done with out the lift. Was the replacement engine put back in , Did it run. Where there any difficulties.
Is the truck running today, was it worth all those effort.

Looks like a tree fell on it. Can you lift a cab off without a car lift, yes. Is it easy, not really. But you need to be very careful. I have a 1975 International Loadstar 1700 4wd dump truck. I use to use it to plow my driveway. It's an old army corps truck that was a faded navy blue but had been sitting for years. The engine didn't have high mileage but it was also very weak. A local city had an auction where they sold off some old vehicles (cop cars and a couple fire trucks). One was another 1700 that was 2 years newer which was a little rusty but the engine ran great. What I didn't know was the firetruck was spec'd with an unusual engine/ transmission.

So I had to swap out the engine and transmission as a package which included totally different mounts. So I removed both cabs so I could get at the frame to cut away the rivets holding the mounts to the frame. It was a challenge because of how tall the truck is (I couldn't use my car left). What I used was some cement rings from a cistern with a heavy wood beam across them to hold the cab up high enough to roll the rest of the truck out from under it. To lift the cab I used a floor jack with lots of cribbing to support the cab as I jacked it up.

In the past I have bought wrecked vehicles but the price for them seams to have gotten insane. Back then you could pick them up and repair them for thousands less than what it would cost for what a used truck similar to it would sell for. Now I don't even bother looking anymore.

For something like that truck you posted a link to how I would replace the cab is to remove the bed and drill out the spot welds along the back cab panel and floor. I would cut the center post and rear post on the side so that it would be spliced at the rocker panel. For the front posts I would splice the outer metal under the front fender while leaving the inner metal sticking up longer to create a sold joint. I've skipped over lots of details but I would do it this way so the only visible joints would be on the rocker panels. Plus you're not messing with the VIN number.

Here's a picture of the beast.
