Do we have any professional retirement / financial advisers on here?

Who would be willing to give me their non bias opinion on a specific retirement direction my NEW planner is purposing?

Via PM, phone call, or email?

    I briefly explain the situation...
you say yup  or nope

I'm like you Ron, I have stayed at a Holiday Inn and I did save $15 on my auto insurance ;). So on to the real topic Slayer, I know I can't answer your retirement question, but after long research, my wife and I went with a fee based advisor rather then a percentage based. Good luck with all.

I'm getting up there in age... & I really don't have any plans on retiring (Love my work)
but at some point my body won't let me or I'll drop dead.
All of my planning is trying to make sure my lovely wife of 43 years is taken care of.

I’m a CPA and will advise lightly on retirement, wealth management, etc.. feel free to run it by me and I’d be happy to give an opinion.

@Sean266 you should put in as much as you can (even if it cuts into truck mods o_O). $18500 per year, taken pre-tax, is the highest allowable tax-benefit wise, at least where I am. Even if you (really) can't put that aside now, good to make it a priority to raise your contribution each year, diverting raises, whatever it takes. Hard to see when you're as young (and good looking) as you are, but money put into investments now will be worth waaaay more (compounded interest!!) than any you put in later in life to "catch up". If you get a windfall, or are particularly disciplined, make the $18,500 contribution, and can afford more, you can put $5,500 after tax into a Roth. This can double as a safety net because you can withdraw the principal, if needed, without any tax penalty (because you'll have already paid tax).

I've been doing my own planning but, this summer, gathered everything together and paid a CPA Financial advisor (with no $ relationship to me, i.e. no reason to be biased) to evaluate everything and make tecommendations. I'm about 8 years from "this" retirement. I'll do it again as I get closer.

Oh, I’ve been putting away 401k for at least 12 years. My employer matches (I forget what %) what I contribute.

OP, I understand it makes you nervous, but you DO have to select the option that says any participant can invite others. If you select the other option, even the person you PM cannot respond. I don't know why there's not a "just the 2 of us" option but there's not. Unless maybe @Sean266 or another moderator can chime in with another option I haven't discovered....

    @Slayer
Not a professional, so glean what you want
I’m retiring in a few months, maybe weeks. Something I suggest you do before going to the pro for council.
For more than the last decade I’ve developing, and tweaking several spreadsheets
    1) current expenses (basically, a budget)
    2) projected income in retirement
    A) pension
    B) social security
    C) draw downs on 401K or IRA’s
    3) projected costs in retirement
If you do this in advance of meeting the advisor you will gain a lot more from the time you pay to be with him.
    Good luck!

You can register on the Mr Money Mustache forum and put up a case study and ask questions (or a simple question in one of the other sub-forums). You'll likely get several solid answers from people that really geek out on this stuff. A word of warning though they are biased towards cutting expenses as much as possible and as such owning a Tundra will get you a virtual face punch over there.

Thanks for this tip, @Tundra9831. I never heard of this site, but will check it out. Of course, I won't sign in with my Tundras.com profile name, or mention this one excess... (my second-ever new vehicle purchase; the first in 18 years).
