It wasnt dark enough so I ended up using the acrylic rings and the tape. I did use the sharpie with the led directly behind the knob button and it came out good.

    Installing

I removed my center console which allowed me to get leverage to remove the cigarette lighter panel and the HVAC panel. Both just pull out to get it off of the clips. Once HVAC is out you can see 4 bolts under the radio. Need 10mm long extension socket.

Removing Center Console and stock radio how-to-video I found.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of2K-J0leMc

Be careful that the bolts do not fall down into the dash. A real pain to get out when you have big hands. I used a magnet to help with one I dropped.

RETAIN YELLOW CLIPS FROM REMOVED ITEMS! You will be reusing them.

I covered up my button LED’s with blue electrical tape vice the transparent tape in post #590. It was essentially the same results just less bright.

I put a strip of black tape to prevent seeing light through the side bezel cracks. (Post #591)

Removing the airbag light and hazard switch:

    Removing the cigarette lighter plugs:

    Wire connections:

    https://youtu.be/rWfh5nmdhDc

I put the GPS sensor under the center dashboard speaker grill. It may not stay there because it really does not fit well and causes one corner of the grill to want to pop up occasionally. (A later refinement)

I plugged in all the wires and secured them along with the orange box ON TOP of the HU housing. That is because when you physically install the HU it sits just above the mounting brace of the old unit and there is no room.

For the OBD connector routing I found a direct path from my center speaker (where GPS is installed) down through the dash to the plug under the wheel. I did not have to try and snake it around any panels. You want to pop the speaker grill up then get on the floor and look up through the dash and you will see the path easier.

I did have one issue on fit. The two tabs on top of the unit would not snap in because of two screws on the HU not having enough clearance with a piece of trim. I used a razor to cut notches in the trim so the screws would not rub. Very easy because the plastic is kind of soft.

Post #591 shows how to modify the top bezel for the two screw clearance.

Suggestions for a tighter fit? Wrap some electrical tape around the clips if needed.

The unit does come with the Google Play Store presintalled but some apps will not show up for this unit because it only holds the newest versions of the apps. 3rd party app stores, such as Aptoide, allows us to download and install previous versions of the apps which is a good idea to have both Google Apps Store and a 3rd party app store on the unit.

Alright guys. After looking at this unit for a few days the fact that the color didn’t match anything inside the truck drove me nuts. So here’s what mine looks like now.

I used a duplicolor gloss black rattle can.
And as for the buttons they just pop out. I sprayed them separate. I didn’t really care about having them light up since I never used them once, so I sprayed right over the little symbols.

I also did the blue electrical tape mod while I had it all apart. It works perfect really dulls it down. I might take scalpel and scratch off the paint on the little symbols and see how it works out.

Has any one reset their HU from the reset pin hole on the right side. Unfortunately I have gone into the settings and made some changes I don't care for, backup camera not working i.e., and I don't know what I changed. Next time will document before making any changes.

    Thanks

Good timing as I sent an email this morning asking the same thing. They know if they can't address the HVAC issues on the Limited and above the HU is going back.

I contacted them on Nov 30th, 2017 about the HVAC issues for the Limited, I was told the engineers were working on a resolution and it should be fixed in the next couple of weeks. I canceled my order until then.

Honestly the HVAC issue doesn't even bother me anymore. i got to know the settings now when i'm driving i dont look at the actual number even before the HU swap .if its too hot i just turn it down too cold i turn it up.
It was never a deciding factor for me but i do understand those of you who want it to visually work correctly.

I agree, but when I increase/up the temps it indicates it actually decreases and vice-versa. So I assume those numbers are incorrect and as you increase the temp increases and vice-versa?

    Thanks
