I haven't changed the oil yet in the tundra, but good to know 0w-20 and 7.9 freaking qts....holy smokes.

 

0W-20 full synthetic and Toyota oem oil filter

 

I use 0w-20 advanced fuel economy and will switch to high mileage once I hit 75k. I change every 10k and use Toyota OEM filters.

 

I USE But Change It Every 5K

 

This is what I use along with Toyota filters. I compared the specs of this (which I've been using for years) and the new Annual Protection and didn't see any thing that justifies the big price increase of new oil over Extended Performance. I will stick with this one.

 

Hey CJ. Big fan of your truck. I'm just on a wee 4.5 BDS.
Is there a reason you change every 5k. My first experience with full synthetic was on a BMW 5 in 2014. Of course I did some investigation because 15k just seemed like way to many miles. The info I came up with was that 15k is legit for full syn. I only do about 6 or 7 a year so once a year changes for me. Don't think I would ever go past 10k regardless. Just curious if I missed something when fact finding not questioning your process. Thanks.

 

Thank you Very Much! From what I was told and the research I did.. I do medium to light weight towing and hauling Not all the time and when you have the trucks lifted so high with the wider wheels and tires causes a lot of Drag on your Truck and Motor. To take off some of the stress off the motor thats way I change so often. ..The only way to help that is to Change the Gears so your motor will not have to work as hard. That I am having done here soon..Maybe I am a Little Also..LOL

 

From Center Hub to wheel well I think I am 9” or so above factory. Plus the 20x12 wheels Do not help at all. With The Drag.. so in theory that should help the motors stress level changing the oil that much. Or I am making Walmart even more wealthier than they are.. LOL

Hey, you love your truck and are doing what you can to take care of it. We are all a little obsessive on here. Towing lifted like that has got to be tough on things.

 

Anyone in here ever gone with the Annual? I just.. I don’t know if I could do it. I just feels wrong.
And what about the filter? Do they make an annual filter also?

 

I bet if you read the fine print on annual protection...it states you still need filter changes at regular intervals. In return, you will need to buy another quart at that time to replace what was drained in the filter housing.... technically, they can say a full replacement is only needed every year, because you have strained it through a refreshed filter every 5k and rejuvenated it with a fresh quart... I ain’t buying it....

 

Royal Purple is what I always used up until this truck. Excellent oil but I don't think it's worth the extra cost. At ~$10 per qt and with this truck taking almost 9qts per change I just couldn't justify the cost anymore. Mobil1 Advanced is what I use now like most the others.

 

Right. That was my other question, how someone’s gonna change the filter without spilling oil, and then having to replace said spilled oil, and the oil in the filter itself..

Seems sketchy.

 

I my memory serves me well, Mobile 1 synthetic perfomed this test when it was first introducing quality possibilities of annual protection back in the 90’s. Every 3-5k miles, only the filter was changed and an oil sample was sent for testing. The result after a year was that regular filter changes and a quart refresh at regular intervals was sufficient enough to sustain lubricating properties in the oil to protect moving parts... how well was never clarified. Question is... are you willing to chance this with a $50,000 investment. I am sure there are some out there, but not me. Just my opinion...

Did first oil change this last Saturday ya a jug plus mobile 1 extended oops I used a mobile oil filter

 

I am a big Mobil1 fan, it goes in my Chevelle and my wife's BMW. The Tundra will get Toyota full synthetic oil and a Toyota oil filter as long as it is under Toyota care and since I have a FFV engine I get an oil change every 5000 miles.

 

I put Mobile 1 in before the second tank of gas was gone because it does get that cold up here

 

I’m pretty sure its the same down there in ‘Merica, but up here in Canada (eh), “Toyota” 0W20 oil is Mobil 1 advanced fuel economy, in Toyota sprcific packaging for retail sale. 45gal barrels have the Mobil 1 labeling painted on with a Toyota decal.

I used to have a contact at the local bulk distributor.

So once your “free” services are up, don’t hesitate.

 

Even better. Now I get free oil changes with my preferred brand of oil, can't beat it!
