I tried replacing my 2020 Tundra's blower fan with a Seqouia brushless fan (part 871030c051). Well it didnt work. The unit fits perfectly where the tundra fan was and the plug was even in the same place. Absolutely positive its plugged in because it clicked and I cant push it in further.

My problem is now when I plug in the old fan, it doesn't work either now. The fuse box is also not helpful because there is nothing labeled for the blower fan. Chatgpt says look for the HTR 50amp fuse...well thats the main fuse for the whole truck. Thankfully my truck runs fine but i have no AC now.

All because I read the forums and saw the youtube videos showing the Sequoia fan upgrade worked and improved flow. Ugh. I live in Texas so its miserable now.

Checked my blower fan plug with a voltmeter. 0 current. Ive passed rage, grief and now am in the acceptance phase. Have to replace the main fuse block. Does anybody have good videos or instructions for doing that? My local toyota wants $860 for labor alone. Ive seen videos showing the removing of the battery and basically lifting the entire fuse box up and around the main fusible link, but nobody shows the disconnecting of any other wires during the process.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong or missing something but you most likely just blew a fuse. Check all of them first

Reading this, looks like the terminals are swapped at the motor making that blower incompatible with your truck

Yup. My mistake was listening to this video: https://youtu.be/zQNXuWj44xw?si=J6C95gOjEWnLsMCI

i failed to do enough due diligence. I mean why would toyota reverse the polarity on fans that perfectsly fit their other vehicles? Isnt cost saving about using similar parts over multiple vehicles? Oh sure they move a tab here and there so its not a "perfect fit". May have to wriggle a wire around. But reversing polarity? Because they know the tundra fan is underpowered and people are gonna try the sequoia swap, and then totally eff them by changing the polarity. Busting a fuse to an easily swappable DYI part but making the fuse to that part be the PIA hardest fuse to change, the fusible block.

I, like most others on the forum, swapped in the Land Cruiser fan, 87103-60560. Thankfully, it has worked flawlessly. There have been several posts mentioning the polarity swap in the Sequoia fan motor. The video talks about a Sequoia fan being the replacement, but that part number 87103-60481 that he installs in the video is not a Sequoia fan. It's also a Land Cruiser fan, 2011-2016.

I think @e30cabrio had a similar issue. Maybe he can chime in with the fix as I don’t recall at the moment.

stupid question: what HVAC control/amplifier do you have? The video is the basic 3-knob style. Just wondering is the output signal is different on your truck.

Im kinda surprised that the brushless motor would work with the same output as the standard brushed motor as they are fundamentally different in how they operate.

Thats something i thouggt about too. I have the basic SR5 knob with 4-5 settings. Not sure how hard it is to swap the control unit.

still plan on upgrading the fan, especially after all the headache. Just wanted something that wouldnt take 20 minutes to cool my truck down when its 110 degrees in texas. Ya'll are saying the Land cruiser fan is plug and play? Polarity and mounting points match? Anything on the controls side of things needing modification?

Everything should be plug and play. That video is misleading in that it's not a Sequoia fan that he installs. It's another Land Cruiser fan. Both the 87103-60560, and the 87103-60481 are Land Cruiser fans, and will work in the Tundra. Polarity is correct, fitment is correct. No changes needed anywhere.

    Many on the way.
These days, Toyota spends a fair bit of time designing ways to prevent the sharing of an upgraded part. Fortunately, they did not extend this reversal to the LC blower…. So we beat them at their own game… this time anyway.
