I had already been running track and cross country many years before i read the book, so i identified VERY closely on how the boys felt during the march…cramps, blisters, fatigue, even the dio. So when i read the book it felt like i could have easily been one of them.

My dad has some dementia. He has good days and some bad day. I took his car keys from him a couple years ago. But i tell you what, for an 85 year old man, he can disappear quicker than a 4 year old. Just last week he was just cresting the rise on our gravel driveway on the john deere riding lawn mower. He took a right turn out of the driveway and hopped on the county road. Glad no cars ran him over.

Yeah that’s sad to see happen to once sharp minds and can definitely be dangerous too, once I got the drift that’s what was going on with this lady earlier I almost instantly let my guard down and went into help mode which she pretty much refused but still tried to follow and watch where she went and that she was safe. I bet that was scary seeing your dad cresting the hill on the John Deere I’d be booking it to catch up with him too! Sad to have to take away car keys too but it’s for their own safety and others too. Had to take my dads keys not because of dementia but because his neuropathy was so bad from his chemo he couldn’t feel the pedals with his feet anymore and he was in agreement that it probably wasn’t safe for him to be driving anymore.

I had a similar story before only it was snowing, front porch light had burned out that same night, and someone was trying to open the front door.
I’m on the phone with 911, with a pistol pointed and ready to go..knew I was being verbally recorded so I rehearsing what I was going to say to myself, in my head.
What seemed to feel like forever, I see )and hear) the crown Vic whip around the corner followed by “police!!” Then his tone got softer. Turns out, cop recognized the (elderly) male as he is known to “get out” during snow storms. Shit got real there for a bit..don’t think I could go back to sleep when it was 2A lol. I had the wife and kids (youngest was being breast fed at that time) locked up upstairs and I was guarding the stair entrance and trying to actively monitor the front door, rear glass door, and all windows while my dog focused on the front door with me, growling.

That’s crazy, you handled that well staying calm, protecting your family and calling 911 at the same time to let them help handle it from the outside. Middle of the night and you don’t have a visual could have been a dangerous situation for that elderly man, also during a snowstorm you very likely may have saved his life.

I would have felt horrible if it had gone south knowing what I knew after. I’m just glad it ended well

Found a nice rock to add to the new aquarium along with adding a Java Fern as the first plant. Tomorrow will mark 1 week of the aquarium being setup. Outside of an initial bacterial bloom that caused the water to cloud up, everything is coming along as expected. I'll test the water on Friday to see where it's at in the cycle and then consider adding a couple of nerite snails if there are no nitrites. Still about a month away from adding fish.

Stepped out of the office for a quick break and this guy decided to come hang out with me for a while. I did not, however, see any coyotes.
