question on factory trailer hitch..

    Ny 2005 cs the trailer hitch that big square tube the end pieces on both sides have rotted away. the rest looks good. is it common for them to rust? it kind of appeared they did not completely enclose the square tube abd really had no structural integrity but just for looks and to keep debri out of the tube? I could weld more in place if need too.

    Yes, the hitches do rust out. Common when they aren’t cared for and treated. They catch lots of road salt spray from the tires, they rarely get rinsed off.
