What home improvement work did you do today?

we got 6 of those we planted a couple years ago. 2 in the front yard and 4 in the back yard. hoping they'll take off and provide some nice shade and aesthetic. nice memorial piece too.

 

They should do well.
You likely already know, but the willow oak is in the red oak family, are fast growing at ~2 feet a year, and love clay soil.

These trees at a rest stop on I64 in Mascoutah Illinois were the example that got my attention.

Ours got hammered by a storm (tornadoes in area and near us) the year we got them. I had them staked and all. They're still alive. 2 snapped about half way up. The other 4 are still doing ok. Hoping they take off soon. We could use the shade haha

 

Went to change a leaking hose bib/ball valve and the threads just rolled right off, leaving only 2 threads exposed! Great! Luckily I had some extractors and got the broken nipple out with a breaker bar on the crescent 23$ for a new brass nipple and a pipe cleaner that I cut and put on the drill to clean the female threads, but there was still some shmutz on the threads from the galvanized corrosion, thankfully I found a pipe tap and cleaned it out
Water is back on and back in business

Slowly but surely making progress on the garage. There were shoes everywhere and no place for them. I decided last weekend to do something about it. Found one of those Ikea cube storage things on Marketplace and bought it. They aren't meant to hang on the wall and definitely should not be unless they are reinforced. The area in the garage where I wanted to put it has a crawlspace with a door that's really low, so I couldn't block access to that. So I stained some boards and fastened them to the back of the Ikea unit. I used those as the structure that would allow me to hang it on the wall for the floating shelf effect. I stained some more broads and fastened them to the top for a upper shelf that will double as a charging station for all the things.

 

I loathe water treatment service days...

Draining the iron separation tank... This is all the iron out of my well water that was separated using chlorine. Fun fun.

 

Do filters just not work? Or this is a big efficient way to do it? I've been living on wells most my life and never seen this. Can you show it from "further back" to see the whole picture?

 

Getting the septic pumped. It's a shit job.

 

Added a 10 x 10 office space to be able to walk from the kitchen into the third garage, which will be a 12 x 20 theater room.

 

In the process of replacing the deck boards with Trex.

 

I never sprayed for bugs at our old house but new house was crawling - I used that same Talak 7.9 stuff linked. Easy to mix and spray whole house perimeter and about 3ft up, around all windows/doors/penetrations. Took about 30 minutes and now over a month with drastic reduction to almost zero in all pest types that were invading us. Got multi-years supply (spraying quarterly) for I think around $50? The local pest place wanted $50/mo to spray similar.

Nice! Thanks for that info. I did end up buying the 1qt bottle. The Ortho spray did some good work on the ants but I quickly ran out and couldn't spray the whole house so I'm gonna finish off with the Talak.
How are you measuring your mix? Is it 1fl oz to every gallon?

 

Yep 1oz per gallon is what I used.
