Good time to go 2026 Tundra iForce 1794?

Hi all!

I’ve got a 2014 Toyota RAV4 that’s gotten me a long way (135k miles) and it’s got $2300 worth of work due on it. I took a look at the Tundra and fell in love with the truck.

Specifically, I'm looking at the 2026 Tundra iForce 1794. I’ve heard about engine problems in previous versions and haven’t heard about any confirmed resolution to them yet.

Is it a good time to go for the 2026 Tundra? Or should I bite the bullet for now and see how they perform for other people?

Any advice is very much appreciated <3

P.S. I’ve taken good care of the RAV so it’s otherwise still in good condition. But I’m itching to get into the bigger and much more comfortable Tundra.

 

Repair the Rav4 and keep driving that, unless you are buying the Tundra cash paid in full and it’s for fun. Dodging $2300 to get hit by $70k plus interest, nah.

 

You do have a good point for sure. Though I am intending to get a Tundra at some point anyways. I’m mostly worried about unresolved issues that the 2026 Tundra might have at launch that would be a reason to hold off.

Unless you 100% need the truck. Save your $80k. Without a solid resolution on the motor issues, that’s an expensive gamble.

 

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! There is risk that they haven't fully resolved the engine issues, but as far as I know the number of issues has dropped of significantly in the later years ('24 & '25).

How long do you typically own your vehicles? If four years or less, you probably have less to be concerned about.

Invest in the Rav4 (I have a 2012) and wait a few months and see how the 2026's are doing and by then they will have Presidential sales or other incentives. That's if there are no major problems with the 2026's.

I tend to keep vehicles for 10+ years if possible. And I’m hoping the Tundra will follow a similar pattern.

I’ve heard similar rumors that the engine issues have been fixed (not sure how they could do a recall and repair if they don’t have a fix - nor why they would sell new trucks with known issues) but I haven’t heard anything from Toyota confirming this yet.

 

Be that guy that's not in a rush, and get a 24-25 tundra with some miles on it, and the depreciation hit. It's a toyota , few miles won't hurt it. But you save $20k+.

In a couple years you won't remember that it wasn't new when you got it

That’s the exact video I watched where he hinted at a part change coming in April. I have no idea how significant it is. But I’m wondering why else Toyota wouldn’t mention it other than to call out a current issue that would ward people off buying now.

 

Maybe to acknowledge accountability. You're right it could ward off some. But at least toyota admits they were wrong.

 

As long as its not going to bankrupt you, I say go for it. Life is too short.
