Yup, he took a photo of the sticker on the inside of the bumper and I contacted ARB, it'll fit. Was emailing back and forth with the guy, waiting to hear back from him again and I'll most likely take it. Great price for a steel winch bumper like you said, and if I really hate it, I'll order up something different and swap it in the future. I'll need to swap out my suspension for the extra weight. I've been wanting to fit 33"s and I'd been holding off on the tires and suspension because I didn't want to lift the front without having a steel bumper. I prefer the truck raked rather than level. Hopefully he gets back to me and I can get it mounted up and see how much my front suspension compresses with it.

 

Locking preferable. Just because it's a pain having them fall off constantly if they start to loosen up with use.

 

Well, let's see how they do. Already handles better than the old Continentals.

 

Make sure it comes with the included ARB “fit kit”! That’s all the brackets and hardware. It’s probably pretty dang expensive to purchase it from arb separately.

I have a 2nd gen tacoma arb bumper and a warn 9i on the front of my 2004. I still have stock height suspension and the original toyota springs on my truck. Eventually i’ll replace my shocks and springs with something that will bring back up the front end 1”~ish, but there’s zero rush for me to do that.

No need for 33” tires anymore if you have a winch bumper. 32” will suffice! Plus with big tires you’ll want to lower the R&P in the axles. I have 4.10’s with my lil’ 215/85-16 tires. It’s an awesome gearing for pulling double duty for highway cruising and occasional towing.

 

He sent me a photo of the parts and I compared that to the instructions already. Looks like its all there. Trying to figure out a time to meet up with them this weekend.

Definitely plan on adding a winch to it if I get it. I'd really like 33" pizza cutters on the truck, but my current 265/75/R16 tires still have over half their life left and not in any real rush to buy new tires. Suspension really should be done first as well. It still cruises happily around 70-75 on the freeway with decent gas mileage with the current setup, I'm a bit nervous to see what kind of hit my mileage takes with this bumper. I'll measure the lift before and after the swap as well, see how much I lose in the front.

Yeah but then I'd have to figure out what wire does what. I'm hoping the harness I just ordered will have them labeled. Have I mentioned how much I hate wiring?

Yeah I know, but it's not enforced. Even when I had my old blue cap and the safety inspection was still in effect, I passed without wiring the third brake light. When I was a state inspector about 15 years ago, we wouldn't fail people for third brake lights either.

 

Do urinal cakes work just as well? I can get a shitload of them from work.

Went to the local Ace to get some propane and a guy pulled up next to me in a nice red 2003 DC. I told him how rare it is to see a red FGT with intact clearcoat here in SC. He said he and his dad painted it in their driveway a couple years earlier. I have to say he did a great job. I asked him if he had ever replaced his timing belt, radiator or LBJs and he said no - they were still originals and the only thing he replaced was the alternator. I suggest he may want to consider doing this and his reply was his truck was super reliable and he saw no reason to do so. I wished him luck…

There are a lot of people out there that simply don't believe in preventative maintenance. And I think some feel like the Toyota badge makes it invincible.

When I did my LBJs recently, I had multiple people look at me like I was crazy when they realized I was doing proactive maintenance on parts. All they understand is drive it until something breaks and then replace the part.

 

Yup, here in South we say, “can’t fix stupid and bless their hearts.”

 

Need to stash away some cards for FGTs in the wild. Front should say "Have you changed your LBJs lately?" And the back should say something similar for the timing belt.

 

Aren't there some 2/2.5 owners in here? Are these rare for them?

I know this is a few days late here, but I just thought of something. When I pressed my UBJs in, we had a problem on one side where it got a little wonky and it didn’t seat evenly while it was pressing in and it kinda had to recorrect at the end of the pressing since one edge of the taper seated a little before the other edge. I saw a thin little shaving of metal peel off of mine, but it was like micro small. I was pissed, but it was what it was and I just figured I’d roll with it. It’s been fine since January. If someone did something like that to yours, but on a more severe scale, they could have just scraped out the female seating area inside the spindle so that it’s actually pretty impossible for a UBJ to seat well. In which case, you’d probably need a new spindle. Just a thought.
