When the Tundra back end lost grip last Winter I went to TSC and bought 4 40lb bags of horse bedding and stacked it in the bed. World of difference. This Summer I have replaced those bags with 3 50lb John Deere riding mower (suitcase) weights. Got the space back but still have the weight for traction.

As for tires, if the budget is tight you might want to consider either Sumitomo (Japanese, not Chinese, and parent of Falken) Ice Edge or Encounter AT tires. I have a set of Ice Edge on the 4Runner for about 3 years now. The 4Runner is my snowplow vehicle and I can truly say these are the best snow tires I've ever had and I'm driving 68 years. The encounter is more an all around tire with a 65,000 mile warranty.

 

Wait, what was the truetrac doing? Check how shiny your diff juice is.

 

It's unpredictable with bald tires if you step on it. What he described about it going side to.side is exactly what scared me initially about the truetrac, until I realized it was my bald tires.





I second Sumitomo tires.

 

I thought that too, but the more I listened I think it was the vehicle in front of him.
Full fledged test for cowl leaks right there... might be hard to tell with the water in the cab though.

Just out of curiosity, I was looking at the ARB safari bumpers. Did they make a different one for RC/AC vs DC? I found one for sale but they're saying it's for 04-06, which sounds like it would be for a DC, but I'm not seeing anything that matches that on the ARB website.

 

I've seen one on a 00-02 AC in person... Nope. Hell no. That underbite will not only be hideous, but it will limit your approach angle.

 

I once got hired to build crates for a set of NOS (40+ year-old units) outer door skins. Both crates were made to be lifted by a fork lift and could be turned upside down and neither door skin move at all. 2x6, 2x4, and panel construction. One weighed in loaded at 125# and the other 115# (I cut the weight down on that one). I had removable grab handles on both so a neighbor and I could put those back into the garage as I finished up.

When the shipper picked them up he said "I've done this job 20 years and those are the best crates I've ever seen."

I'd had an original 1972 fender badly dented by UPS and I wasn't going to allow that to happen to anything I was involved in. The door skins made it safely to Canada and the recipient was impressed. I told him to disassemble the crates and reuse everything. I forgot how many pounds of deck screws each had.

 

Anybody had any experience with a second gen sequoia? Our Honda odyssey is about to kill me. I’m fixing crap on that car all the time. It drinks and leaks oil. Need a pretty big family car. I’m not too proud to buy another van, but I feel like all vans are just a big heavy truck on a car frame with a car engine. Thought about a suburban, but I’ve heard of a lot of drivetrain problems from friends. Which led to me the second gen sequioa. First gen wouldn’t be big enough. I had a 2010 tundra and liked it, so I figured maybe I ought to check out the sequioa. Thoughts?

 

They are good, reliable, and thirsty. The 2nd-gen Sequoia has held their value well, so might take some patience to find a deal. My favorite of the full size SUV bunch.

 

Oh I'm aware of how they look, not great. There's one local to me for a really good price so I'm interested in the fit and if there were different models. My truck is mainly for camping and driving to trail heads for mountain biking. I'm mainly just looking for the benefits of a proper steel bumper without having to deal with having one welded together and powder coated.

Highlanders are awesome, it’s all we use for family cars. Good on gas too, esp if you can score a hybrid (“HiHy”)

 

X to doubt. Looks like you took the shoe off, then changed your mind, and put it back on. Or nobody taught you canadians how to tie shoes.

 

Not sure if I should create yet ANOTHER thread of tire advice for this, so I'll chuck it here to start? I've got these 16" beadlock style rims (PTR56-35220-F5) on the way and am trying to select a tire ('05 DC, no lift). I called up the tire shop for advice and asked about 275/70/16 because it seems that's the size most on here agree won't rub. He recommended some yokohama geolandars in that size and says the 4ply will ride better and closer to what I've already got. He also offered wildpeak at4 or cooper discoverer in 265/75/16. He said c-class is 10ply and will feel harsher than stock. Any advice? I am 95% road tripping with this truck but have ended up on gnarly gravel from time to time. No crawling.

 

Any all terrain tire is going to ride rougher. C- or E-rated, although most seem to be E these days. And any all terain Tire will be substantially noisier too. I farking hated the Wildpeaks I rode for a while. So goddamn noisy.

 

C and E rated tires are overkill unless you load heavy or wind up driving on tiny tree trunks that can puncture. My bitchelins can handle gravel and a little light crawling with ease. I’d also suggest getting skinny tires depending on wheel width. Fake beadlocks? I dont know why, but i feel like beadlocks arent completely legal, but dont know.

 

I'd stay away from c or e rated unless you NEED them. I got E rated toyos and they're great tires, but they're pretty stiff for day to day in town driving which is 99% of my driving.

 

I wish my wife would have decided on the Highlander instead of her Sorento. But the Highlanders were harder to find at the time (3-6 month wait) and she loved the Wolf Gray color Kia was offering on the X-line SX Prestige trim. We have had recurring issue of the backup camera image rolling/distorting and the TPS system errors. After the last trip to the dealership, maybe they have it fixed finally. Other than that, it has been pretty good.

 

Oh no. The transsorists are gonna come after me. Better paint over that.

 

Pretty sure i stole that beer box from a neighbors trashcan, because its perfect for fanning air into a charcoal smoker.

 

Well the brake light/dome light harness I ordered didn't fit my ARE harness. Not even close.
