Anyone else get a bunch of noise from the engine at startup after the truck's been sitting for 4-7 days? It lasts maybe 2-4 seconds and sounds pretty bad but goes away quickly as oil pressure comes up. Runs, idles, and drives fine.

I try and run the truck once every couple days in the summer but mostly I ride my motorcycle or e-bike everywhere. Oil's not low and I park nose down in my not extremely sloped driveway. 2021 with 78k miles on it. I'm going to change the oil and cut open the filter to see if there's a bunch of shavings. I bought the truck 6 months ago and it hasn't started doing this until recently and the only thing I can figure is it's more likely to occur the longer the truck sits without running.

I had a 2014 Tacoma years ago and it would VERY rarely do something similar but that was like once a year. This has happened 4 times in the last 2 months.

Anyone else have a similar thing happen?

    A/C on or off.
asking because my would do that if I had the A/C on and started the truck after sitting for a couple of days.

Same here AC compressor makes a loud noise on start up if truck sits for days and ac is on when I start it. If I turn ac off before I shut it off and let it sit for 4 days. When I start it no noise untill I push the ac button then noise for 1 maybe at most 2 seconds then gone. GGGGGGFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTHHHH

Normal to sound like a diesel for a few seconds. Driver's side timing chain tensioner needs to pressurize. You could install a prelube pump to pressurize before start if you intend to keep the truck for 20+ yrs. Super nice guy and a good product here...

    Too many, but not enough....
The ac grind noise is normal, there is a tsb on it. Caused by oil accumulation in the compressor or something when it sits. The sound is the oil being expelled.

My 21 limited AC compressor makes the same loud clunking sound on startup. I wonder if it has anything to do with the new style refrigerant and It’s refrigerant oil?

I wonder if a 19 or 20 year model AC compressor makes the clunking sound?

Is it the OP timing chain tensioner?

Yes, most likely. Possibly belt tensioner starting to go. He could remove the belt to easily verify. That also takes care of any A/C noises from the a/c comp. clutch engagement too.
