Do we know any details about the recall replacement reverse lights? Will they be brighter?

The dealers have no info about when parts are coming in. My dealer couldn't loan out any of their 30 Tundras due to the recall.

Really?? A loaner for reverse lights?? Once they get the parts, it would take all of 10 min.

My dealer told us on Saturday that it should be “soon.” I think they were trying to keep my wife from backing out on buying a truck. Luckily for them, and my wife, they found the same truck, but that is not affected by the recall, at another dealer.

Pretty sure he means loaners for other issues that take more than a day to repair. Unless they’re rolling out now, there are no replacement lights even available for the recall, yet.

    That is incorrect.

The first phase was released on August 28, 2025.

It is ~6,000 vehicles. It is presumed to be for the ~5,900 vehicles that are on STOP SALE due to the recall.

So do the reverse lights on your new truck from the other dealer match to the recall replacements?

Haha, let’s fix the vehicles we cant sell first then get to customer vehicles. If that concerned about safety, shouldn’t they fix the vehicles that are currently on the road first

I am curious to know if the new lights vs. recall lights have the same brightness when sitting side by side. I expect they will be the same just have an improved sealing to keep the moisture out.

Right, their fleet of loaner Tundras are essentially grounded awaiting for the fix.

My Tundra just went in due to a differerential issue. They tried offering me a Tacoma but it won't fit my family. I ended up with a Highlander. After only a 10 mile drive I'm not disappointed in my Tundra vs Grand Highlander purchase.

I'm convinced this is why Toyota picked their arbitrary dates for the engine recall.

They filed the recall in May 2024. At that time they probably still had some '23s on the lots. So they selected Feb 2023 as the last build dates for the recall, so they could continue to sell the remaining '23s and '24s, when they knew damn well those trucks had the same potentially defective engines.

The more I learn about the auto industry's practices, the more disgusted I become.

They need to turn that inventory as there is a carrying cost to those sitting on the lot. Probably going to be some insane deals on those 2025s that are in the recall.

I would assume so. We don’t pick the truck up until tomorrow.

The recall only affects trucks with a build date before March 2025, so my guess is that the remedy has been known since then and addressed on the assembly line, but they needed to build up inventory of the parts before releasing the remedy to the dealers.

I got a notice in the app the other day that the "remedy is available". My truck was built Feb. 2025.

Only those built on or after February 17, 2025 are in the current phase.

This is such BS out of Toyota.

They are fixing their inventory of newest trucks, first, so they can sell them. Meanwhile, there is 3 years of older trucks that have reverse lights that are more likely to fail due to age and exposure to moisture.

Way to keep your customers first, Toyota.

Couldn't agree more on the interior lighting. Sucks so bad, I have use a mini-flashlight to see anything.

I was told by 2 dealers that they won't install anything other than genuine Toyota parts. Like to see how much better those Form back ups are. But then if you did install them, Toyota would probably threaten to void your warranty like all other parts that outmatch anything Toyota wants to offer. Hell, we can't even get Toyota parts we want!

Tend to agree with you. It also helps them get these done without having to schedule a customer, etc. It also helps technicians understand what needs to be done, etc.

So I can see both sides of the coin as well as the edge.

C'mon, it's only backup lights. OEM are pretty much useless anyways. Life is good if we need a 84 post thread to worry about them.

Dropped mine off just now for a separate issue (driver door suddenly won't open from the inside). They are taking care of the reverse light recall as well. I'll report back with what exactly they do.

My reverse lights passed inspection because they already have the gray vent patches - no further action needed for the recall.

However, my driver's interior door handle assembly is broken somehow and not actuating the cable. Part # 69206-0C121. Bad news is they say two weeks to get one! In the meantime, I'm rolling window up/down to get out via the outside handle. I love Toyota but their parts supply/availability ticks me off.
