Thru-out the whole video, really. Ryan talked about himself way too much for my liking. It was like he was at a job interview trying to convince Toyota to hire him.

And there was a ton of off-topic jibber jabber, IMO. It would have been an informative 15 minute video, if they would have just stuck to the Toyota engine issue.

Came on here to say the same thing. A change is coming to the V35A-FTS engine, with new parts expected to be in the Tundra by April or May of next year, likely for the 2026 model year [12:52]. This makes me think that those with a recalled engine should wait as long as possible, if they can...

 

I think Ryan just wants to work for Toyota and is desperately trying to get in (the wrong way).

Makes sense and I'm familiar with the matched set process ... but when the bearing change came about I could've swore a seperate P/N was listed in the then easily accessed IPB's.

Just looked again and the main cap ladder frame is not separate from the block, in both bare cylinder block form and short block form.

 

I guess that's why I can't find it anymore

To continue this derail, I love our 570. It's the best jack-of-all-trades vehicle out there. Seat belts for 8. Super comfortable. Kids still fit in the 3rd row. Smoothest road tripper out there. It can even tow almost as much as my Tundra (payload is the limiting factor like all Toyotas).

That said, I don't quite trust the 200s to be trouble free as long as the Tundras, and it's because of heat. I have little hard data to support this. While the 200 series takes a gallon more coolant than the 5.7 Tundras, its radiator is significantly smaller by volume, and its transmission cooler is around 1/4 smaller as well. Toyota also literally ran a design-flawed radiator in the 200/570 for 10 years before addressing it. The engine bay is a lot tighter, too. I just think - again, speculating here - these things are why we see an apparently higher rate of cooling-related issues with 200s. One frequent poster's transmission just went. He tows a 5k trailer several times a year and is ULTRA meticulous with maintenance. And the temps the guys regularly report in the 200 series towing thread would give most Tundra guys serious pause. Lastly, it really does seem that there is a lot more chatter on Mud about coolant valley leaks than there is here, especially considering how many more Tundras and Sequoias were sold than 200s. I know local cruiser heads who have told me I 100% will have to deal with the coolant valley leak on my 570, probably sooner than later since we're at 205k miles.

That said, we still love our old 570 and prefer it to pretty much everything.

So, clearly he isn't too savvy about keeping his identity anonymous. So he wouldn't go unnoticed by the crack moderator staff we have here.

 

Not sure where you are getting your numbers from but at least here in Canada, the Tundra is the bargain when shopping 1/2T. A crewmax SR5 is $66,000 while an F-150 XLT is $70,000 and has less features. You have to add the Mid package for $7,400 just to get heated seats, and you still don't get a heated steering wheel. Currently with their "Employee Pricing" discount of $8,000 and "Delivery Allowance" discount of $2,000 the F-150 would appear to cost less, until you have to add the Mid package to even get it close to the spec of the Tundra.

 

Agreed, I want a Chevy or Ram, but they are just to expensive when you start to equip them like the Tundra I got.

We had been looking to replace my wife's Kia Telluride, and having owned an Odyssey many years ago during our kid years, decided to go look at Pilots with me telling her Honda is the only one still using that NA 3.5 they have been using forever, it's bullet proof. She happened to notice a nice clean Merc GLE on the lot and that is now her new SUV and so far she's loving it.

 

I just watched the entire video. And have been following this engine issue for many years. My 2019 is in perfect shape but eventually I will need a new truck. One of my best friends is a GSM at one of the top ten volume dealerships in the country.

that said, and I would probably feel differently if I was one of the affected, I feel like Toyota has responded better than any of the other manufacturers. Even if they’ve deflected a bit (that’s what huge corporations do), I believe they’ve responded in a way that no other manufacturer has. Their failure rate is far less than the big three even when accounting for the decreased volume of units sold. Maybe I am naive and blinded by 30 years of reliability in every car/truck I have bought from them, but it seems to me that Toyota has done more than any of the others. Whether more is enough is debatable - but they’re taking as big of a financial hit as they are reputational
