Well, I for one am rooting for Toyota to iron out all the problems and make the 3rd gen at least relatively on par with its predecessors in terms of quality and longevity.

We all are. It's just some folks think their Cheerios are getting pissed in any time concern is raised.

These 3rd gen forums are some of the most emotionally charged threads on any vehicle I've seen. Why is it so hard to just be objective?

Well to be fair, no one wants to hear they spent $60K on a piece of crap....it's totally normal for people to defend there purchase. And lets be honest, most people are making this into a bigger issue than it currently is.

Why defend it like a Tundra is your entire personality? Is it perfect? Far from it, same with every other truck on the road. Even trying to get accurate fuel economy from some Hybrid VS non-hybrid owners. This would be a lot more productive if people weren't so "defensive" and just looked at the facts. Would also help to have some transparency from Toyota.

    agreed, but as we've discussed before - I think most of that has been cleaned up (thanks mods);

It's just frustrating to continue to see the ad hominem (not from you, to clarify) whenever some folks don't like the message - even when it is concerning "interesting news regarding 3rd Gen tundra's"

I get what your saying, but Ill throw out the conversation since I don't feel like working right now, HA

why come in without even owning a 3rd gen and piss in the Cheerios about how shitty the truck is?

so the defensiveness is to be expected a little don't you think?

(to clarify again, not you, I enjoy your posts)

all that said, it doesnt seem that bad anymore, just normal truck forum stuff, mainly anyways

I would agree with this statement...if you don't own a 3rd gen, why comment about other peoples trucks....

I think what started this latest pissing match was a post, with a Reddit link, and a comment saying "Another engine bay fire over on Reddit".

The problem with that post is it implies engine fires are common in Gen 3s. If they are, I sure haven't heard about it. The other problem is the Reddit post itself doesn't indicate the cause of the fire. For all we know it could have been vandalism.

I think the person who took issue with that post was justified in pointing out that it wasn't necessarily an indictment against Gen 3 Tundras.

just saying its shit, they are all shit, and there is no reason to ever buy one, ya, not so much.

No, it's not normal to defend a purchase, nor to spout tripe about someone else's. Normal is having the awareness to disengage.

I understand, I just think it would be more informative if people would leave emotion out. And for the record, I own a 2025 Limited long bed, and a 2025 SR5 for my employees work trucks. They've both been flawless and we really enjoy them.

My 2025 Raptor 802A has leaking shocks, and I've been flaming it on the Raptor forums. My dealer won't help with it either. So I have zero brand loyalty. I drive what makes me happy and am not ashamed to trash something if it sucks.

My position (as a non-3rd Gen owner currently trespassing) has always been out of frustration at Toyota, and never criticizing a current owner's truck. Excited for the new model, that turned into "why did they (Toyota) ruin a good thing?" Nothing more.

I've been coming here for the past year because my wife said you need a new truck, to replace my 2016 F-150 3.5l Ecoboost Supercab 8' bed, w/ just over 100,000 miles. She hates the suicide doors and we've never needed the back seat except for the 2 small 20lb dogs, now down to one. So I decided a Tundra would be in my future, but because I don't NEED a new truck I decided to just watch from the sidelines and see how this played out.

With the 2026s coming I have decided that screw it, my truck is good enough for the limited use we have of it now since we switched from towing our TT to a new Sprinter based RV and decided to go buy a new Honda Goldwing instead, the Eternal Gold sold me and I have never cared what color any of my vehicles have been in the past.

Corerect not common, this is the first one I seen with a result.

My daughter wants a Third Gen so I look out for her ... however there is a "common" issue we can't get over.

I had the same reaction (1st I'd heard about engine bay fires); But, I'd argue that it definitely checks some boxes as being justified in sharing here. And yes - there is zero context regarding the cause, and what actually caught fire, but I don't think the poster was pointing a finger and laughing about "all Gen 3's have engine bay fires."
For me it was just one more reason to pause, and not out of the realm of possibility given the QC of the latest model (fuel tank recall thing posing a fire risk, etc). Hell there was even a fire risk (and recall) for my 2019 due to Toyota cheaping out on some headlight wiring (essentially).

Maybe so, but he was equally writing off the poster, and therefore the post's relevance to this forum/thread simply because the poster doesn't drive a 3rd Gen which is the problem (and continues to be).

Ok, so one engine fire, apparently due to a fuel leak. Got it.

As for your video, again, there's no information about the failure. The contents of the oil pan looks like coolant had entered the lubrication system, to me. But nobody knows. Just more speculation.

I get looking out for your daughter, but you should be a bit more objective about it.

That video is water in the oil, probably a gasket failure.

I really don't give a rat's ass if non-Gen 3 owners want to hang out here. I just don't understand their motivation. I can't imagine wasting time on a forum that's dedicated to a vehicle I don't own. But that's just me.
