Right?! A friend of ours had posted some pictures of these beautiful beasts (that I always thought were super elusive) and I was like "OMG, where'd you get the pictures?!"

She gave me specific directions where to go and a time to get there. I'm like "GTFO, you can't tell me what time a wild animal is going to be at a certain spot.

But I did what she told me.

I stood scanning this ridge, and I kept noticing, looking at this one odd looking "rock"... After about 40 minutes, (20 minutes or so after she told me they come) that "rock" popped up and turned.

He must have been the scout &/or leader, 'cuz as soon as he started down the hill a couple more appeared and started down, then a few more, then they were just bounding down the hill everywhere!

Apparently they come down to drink at the golf course every morning... I'm freaking out about how amazing this is, and the golfers are just annoyed waiting to play their ball.

I lived in SD and played in the desert and river for years. Worked in that area for 18 years, I-8, S-2. Never saw bighorn sheep. Knew they were there, never saw them. Coyotes, snakes, bobcat, and mountain lion. Never bighorn sheep.
    Super cool to see.
Lots of donkeys around squa lake area.

At one point they were pretty much on all sides of me going from hillside to golf course, with some stopping to practice their big boy stuff - ramming horns, head butting, mounting a Ewe...

I was losing my shit, shooting video with my phone while shooting stills with the long lens.

I had seen a couple before, at a distance up on a hillside because I saw a photographer point a camera, but nothing like this. Some of them came by within 20-30' of us.

Did you guys know they can drink as much as 5 gallons of water in one sitting?!

Basically the back side of De Anza Desert Golf Course in Borrego Springs, just west of Galleta Meadows where all the sculptures are, also worth seeing.

You can drive through the community to get to the back. If you get to the locked gate with golf course on your left and rocky hillside on your right, that's it!

These pics were taken around Thanksgiving, I think we got there at 9 or so in the morning.

I'm the worst about uploading photos. These photos were taken over the summer break. The last photo, is my house in Port Angeles, WA. I retire from the military in 3 years and I can't wait to move up. I just want to raise chickens, goats and work for the NPS.
