What have you done to your 2.5 gen Tundra today?

Just got back from a camping trip. Only about 85 miles away not counting a ferry ride otherwise it would have been 150 miles via the slab thru Seattle going around the Puget Sound. Tundra was fully loaded and towed my Aliner pop up. Had great weather, not hot or cold imo. A beached Grey whale was restored and on display I’m Pt. Townsend. Got some beach walks in and e-bike rides with wife. Saw a family of otter in the water and blue herons.

Yes, it’s around 20 ft tall.

 

Ye olde drain and refill on the trans (53k miles). Fluid looked darker than I'd like to see at this mileage, so I'll do it again in 5k miles (next oil change). Also changing the oil/filter, general inspection while I'm under there and skids are off.

 

have you installed a transmission cooler?

 

The Olympic Peninsula always has great weather (even in winter in my opinion); but yet again, I lived in Whidbey for a long while and loved it. One day I'll move back. Looks like a great time

 

Went to remove the TRD skid plate today and found that the front two bolts were already gone. I'm guessing I bought it this way or it happened at a local shop.

Any idea what I replace these with? In the instructions there's no spec on these bolts other than 12mm head as they come attached to the plate.

 

Factory was M8x1.25 thread pitch with 12mm heads.

 

Not yet, but it's on the to do list. Will probably wait until Fred Anderson has it's next 25% off sale

 

How long? And do these not have a spacer attached to them on the backside of the skid plate?

I haven’t gotten around to working in it yet but I was wondering if I’d be able to actually wiggle anything into that tight space at the back of the bracket.

Seems to be cooling down too. Probably a spike in September but we'll knock em out before winter if FA makes that sale happen

 

Sounds good to me. We are both going to get that oem parts list, is the actual cooler in that parts list?

As for parts, I intended to put together the OEM parts a recent poster graciously shared. The only thing missing is some flat bar for the bottom of the mount. I've got a sawzall, dremel, and brute strength if needed lol. I planned on the setrab brackets for the sides.

Ok, I didn't realize his list actually had the cooler in it, thought it was just the hard lines, fittings, trans fluid and other pieces.

Installed the relay - fog lamps work - but the headlight for the SR has a that auto bright deal - and now with an upgraded switch for the lights with the foglamps it doesn't work - pops up on the display all the time oye

 

Looks like a fantastic trip! That area of the country is stellar.

 

Changed spark plugs with Denso 3421/SK20HR11. Also restored the headlights. Passenger side shows what they were like before, driver's side shows after. Used 400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit sand paper then Meguiar's two step headlight restoration kit.

 

Not the hardest job, but yikes, one of the most frustrating.

 

Got a few things done today..
Replaced my 1.25" wheel spacers that were on the truck when I bought it in May 2024. Cleaned all mating surfaces and applied some locktite to the studs holding the spacers then torqued everything.Added some TRD labels to my wheels Color matched my battery hold down that I bought from a member last year and I'm very happy with my LED under the hood I bought one of those air bag jacks off Temu !!!! It's a game changer

 

Did the same thing a couple years ago....hope I never have to do it again! I'm with you...the most frustrating thing to do yourself on these trucks!

 

It sucked. Every job has that one hard bolt, this job is all of those bolts. Hopefully it's the last time.
