    Oh really? I had showed a video of it to my mechanic and he didn’t seem worried. His initial thought was that the preload would keep it tight. If I purposely try to hold the gear and spin the inner race I can get some movement, but it’s not that easy or sloppy.

    When I was checking the preload it was on pretty tight when I was checking runout and gear pattern. It did pop out with the press but nothing like the rear.

    Many on the way.
    Yes, that will get you the double row ball bearing. The manual indicates it’s not press fit there, just requires a little tappy tap tap.

    Oh wow well in that case I’m not too worried. Sliding it on it reaches a little resistance in that last inch and then feels like it pushes over a hump and into place with a small amount of force. Might get an OEM roller bearing for the heck of it to try it but I think I could use this one without worrying about it. Thanks for the input guys.

    At first I pressed it out and after that a few hard smacks with a dead blow got it out. The tappy-tap for me usually sends things flying and I have to search...

    @DbQC

    looks a tad deep. How is your carrier backlash? Ring side carrier bearing too tight? Shoot for .007. does have a nice hamburger bun top on drive side...err on a little shallow than too deep to prevent whine.
    Post a pic of the pinion pattern too.

    A little OT but what the chance that anybody has a set of gently used factory 4.30 rear gears sitting in a box somewhere that needs to be re-homed? I'll put up a general post in the Classifieds but figured this would be a good place to start.

    I am swamped until this weekend, but I can try and see if I stashed them in the garage attic. Please keep us updated if you find a set.

    And you can have them polished to remove the old pattern.

    That would be great. I'm not in a super hurry. Long story short, my new-to-me-still-under-warranty '21 has a whine that the dealership can't hear despite it being very obvious, so I took it for a ride a long with an independent drivetrain specialist shop. Took them all of 27 seconds to hear and diagnose it: bad pinion bearings, possibly worn R&P from the pinion bearings. The warranty only covers dealership work, so I either have to play the dealership game and convince them that the problem exists even though it hasn't failed catastrophically and left me stranded yet, or pay out of pocket and have it fixed by a local shop... before it fails catastrophically and leaves me stranded.

    I'm waiting for the service advisor to call me back one more time, but I'm betting it will be easier and cheaper for me to just pony up and have it done elsewhere. I thought about going to 4.88's or 5.29's, but that's not part of the plan for this truck. Yet. So I'm getting my ducks in a row for when the diff comes apart to minimize downtime on the lift.
