I didn't give a shit about them.
I asked them deep, "3rd rail" operational questions.....AND they answered!

Speaking of sports...

MLB is a prime example of what happens when you don't have cheerleaders!!!! Now they have players doing mandatory celebratory dances, moves, high-fives, etc... They've even forced pitchers to 'yell into their gloves' at almost every chance they get to 'show some emotion'....

Baseball might be too civilized to overcome its popularity issues in today’s era. Ruthless sports seem to be more in the mainstream.

Russell Crowe summed it up in his movie quote.

Baseball is an amazing team sport. But it still has features that repel folks these days: you only get tagged/touched, there’s a safe home base, opposing players talk to each other on the bases, etc.

 

I was surprised as hell the first time I did this, but as stated above, it freakin' works (just do it w/respect and tact) and do as much research as you can in advance....

Having an interviewee do this to me in an interview would be an absolute 'bell ringer', because what I have in front of me is someone who can think tactfully, they've done some homework on us, and they are NOT afraid to be responsible for their own success and happiness. They appear to not NEED this job, which makes me feel like I may be the one NEEDING them....

 

Jazz (or Chaz Jism) as we like to call him might disagree w/your assessment.... He's got to be all of what 180-190lbs wet

Back to financials, for those that are pursuing a 'comfortable' retirement or nest egg or whatever you are calling it...

Consider the 4% rule as a baseline for what you'll need to be comfortable in retirement. Essentially this means that your net worth (generally not counting the equity in your home), needs to be enough that you can draw/deduct 4% of its value each year and maintain your comfortable operating level of expenses.

So, let say you believe 80k/yr is comfortable to live on... You'll need a savings/portfolio, etc of about 2 million to sustain about 30 years of 'retirement'; but note that doesn't account for inflation, etc...

These are just accidental sports injuries. If they both resulted in bench clearing and a full on brawl with broken noses, then that would be something.

Just remember that you want to come across as a smart problem solver, not the potential PITA problem. You want to ask questions and keep the tone in a place that makes you look good, and doesn’t make them feel bad. You can usually pick apart an organization at arm’s length.

Plus, you’re not interviewing to be CEO.

 

This. Exactly. I go in to every interview not needing a job. I'm a horrible salesperson (I'm an engineer), but I know how to make people feel like they need me (and they usually do). If you can take control of the interview in a tactful way and not make it seem like you have taken control they will desire you. There is a power struggle with interviews were the one being interviewed always feels like they are inferior. Fuck all of that.

they are the dumbest, most unnecessary folks on the payroll....who think they are smartest.

Don't even get me started on HR in general. Their only purpose is to protect the company. They do not exist for anything other than that.
