My 14 CM SR5 came with a factory hitch. I'm wanting to replace it with a class V hitch but the Curt product I ordered doesn't have all the attachment points that the factory hitch has. Is there a class V hitch available or a work around to make the Curt hitch work?Tia

Welcome from OKC! If the same one I ordered prior to buying my truck with a factory hitch, that dude is a beast! We were in the pandemic and I wanted a good hitch with my Tundra so I bought the Curt before the truck while available. Anyway on my truck, the factory hitch also serves to support the rear bumper (if you wanna call it that) components. That crap went in the trash and I bought Ranchhands to replace both. Anyway, that Curt product might not have all the same mounting points because it is just a hitch, not a bumper support/bumper core. That doesn't mean it isn't a great hitch. IMO it is a great alternative option. Have a picture or screenshot of it?

Yup. That's the same one I ordered/received. I've got 60 days to return it, if I can't find a workaround. My question is...what do the Tundras that aren't factory equipped with hitches have for bumper supports? Can I use those parts and keep the OEM bumper or is replacing the factory bumper the only alternative?

Your tundra isn’t built to pull anything that would require a class 5 hitch. Whats the reason you feel you need one?

IDK, maybe research some parts diagrams on the web or look at trucks in person. I'd just get a better bumper to protect the truck bed and tailgate better because that factory crap will wad up faster than paper.

Not exactly, but we aren't here to debate that.
Don't hate on the guy, he didn't design and rate the damn product. He just went and bought a nice hitch for his truck. He never mentioned pulling mobile homes with it. So what if it was well built?

Because my factory hitch has been hit twice and instead of spending 1k for a replacement class 3, I was going to upgrade for less money. I'm not planning on maxing out a class V hitch. Having more than you need is safer than the other way around

If your hitch was added by the dealership, it's usually a class III; if it is the factory hitch that comes with the tow package, it is a class IV+ per Toyota's customer service. If you are concerned about the strength of the hitch, it is QUITE robust. Mine has seen some serious (ab)use over the years, as evidenced by a slightly bent hitch shank that wouldn't fit my new truck when I tried transferring it over. I'm not encouraging folks to load their truck and trailer in such a fashion, but tongue wait was well beyond what most folks here would consider pulling, even with a WD hitch. Long story..

If your hitch is damaged, it would be best to replace it, but know that the OE Class IV hitch is stout. I've looked at the Curt hitch and it appears robust as well. But not only does it hang lower than the factory hitch, but it would be difficult to integrate properly. I'd normally say give eTrailer a call, but their customer service isn't what it once was. Still good, but not nearly as knowledgeable in general as they used to be. I know the OE hitch is a fair bit of money. Perhaps a wrecker would have one form a newer truck that is in better shape?

If you want to try to work a deal @STravis might be able to get you set up with a used factory hitch since he builds and sells bumpers with integrated hitches. If me, I would apply the money toward his custom high clearance bumper/hitch combo and not look back. Really good quality stuff and fair prices, plus supporting a family owned small business. Good luck!

I wasn't aware of that. Thank you for that information. I didn't purchase the truck new. I'm not sure if it's a factory or dealer installed unit. Having a class IV would provide enough of a buffer for my needs. My toy hauler fully loaded is 880lbs on tongue weight and I have a really heavy wdh with shocker hitch that is 85lbs. Really close to the 1k it's rated for.

I'd be more worried about the springs than the hitch. Factory hitch would be fine but you'll squat almost to the bump stops with 1,000lbs on the back.

Good point, but he might have that modified already. Well OP, what are you working with there for keeping the headlights in focus? There are options!

I have air bags to help keep from bottoming out and they help the sway and stability too. I was considering an upgrade to the leaf springs as well. They appear to be in good shape and I don't want to make the daily commuting too rough if I don't have to. My main concern is the that the hitch has been hit twice while it was parked. One time it sheared the 5/8 hitch pin and nobody left a note or nothing. I'm extremely glad I found it before I hooked back to my trailer tho.

My Tundra has the adjustable headlights and I use that for beam correction
