Not a lot to update, been doing some more tuning here and there. I wired up a clutch switch so launch control could be enabled. I was hoping the guy that helped me tune it would just send me a screenshot of some good base starting values, but he didn't want to do that, and I didnt want to wait for him to have availability to help me so after some research and fiddling around I got it working!

I need to dial it in more, but right now if you push the clutch in and floor it launch control will activate and hold at 3500rpm while boost builds to around 5psi. Launching it is pretty gnarly, and of course the rear completely let's go in 1st and it seemed to keep spinning through 2nd and into 3rd. I need to dial it in more, but using launch control and spinning it's pretty quick off the line, certainly a lot better than revving it out and dumping the clutch without boost. I need to try launching it in 2nd, that's what I used to do with it naturally aspirated and the old gearing, I think that will make a big difference since hopefully I can get the rest to stay planted and then I can rev it out more plus the 2-3-4 shifts are extremely fast, where as the 1-2 shift is a bit lackluster.

Course the other day I go out to tweak things more, and I start with trying to tune the wastegate more and three pulls in and the exhaust manifold gasket blows out on #6

    PXL_20250815_234219276.jpg

My neighbor thinks the bolts had just loosened up since I haven't tightened them in awhile. Today I replaced the gasket and luckily I was able to slide the manifold away far enough and then unscrew the exhaust studs so I could slide the new gasket in without moving the downpipe which is more or less in a fixed location. The exhaust manifold gasket is split into a front and rear half that each cover three cylinders, so that made life a bit easier too. I also replaced one of the intercooler boots that had a small nick and I think was leaking a little since there was a high pitched squeal occasionally in boost.

And then lastly I decided to take off the Toyota emblem and cut out a 2JZ emblem and zip tied that to the front, just as another hint to people that know :D

I'm hoping to get launch control and the waste gate dialed in more, and the temperatures are starting to drop so hopefully can revisit some pulls with the Dragy and see how quick she is. The current configuration is an absolute blast and my usual vehicle I'm driving around town, I wish I had an odometer but she's been racking up the miles!

Nice to see another RN25/8 on here as well! Although my swap has two less cylinders and not turbo'd (yet).

They should really bring back that old Toyota emblem, looks so cool! It'd be neat make it smaller and turn it into a key fob.

I imagine the 22re isn't too bad of a swap and pretty similar to the 20r? Engine bay looks nice! Truck in general looks much nicer than mine hahaha

Was a pretty simple swap. If I didnt find the donor so easy, I would have tossed one of my extra 7mgtes in there. It is pretty light and I have another 22RE which is super clean, so I plan on building that for a little turbo love and switching it in (with megasquirt).
