As tired of dealing with Toyota dealerships as you probably are, just take it back to them and let them deal with it.

Did your original engine pop or did they replace it preemptively?

It was replaced as part of the recall. I never had any issues with the truck before this

Not looking good at all. It’s evidence that Toyota quality control is not what it used to be.

But please, do not count this failure as part of the bearing failures that the recall was about. Those happen at much higher miles. This failure is likely due to a quality control issue not related to the recall!

It is likely an install error, not an engine failure.

The few times vehicles I have owned that have had major surgery at a dealership have mostly not been the been the same or with the future problems. The difference between factory assembled and dealership's giving it a go is real.

    Without fully derailing this thread...

Full story is here; shorter version, after the tech mis-timed the cams on reassembly (8/1), and then had to pull the valve cover off to retime them, it developed an oil leak where oil was steadily dripping out of the engine (as per the service manager the tech "forgot to put sealant in 2 of the 4 places it's supposed to be added"). They attempted to hand it back to me (8/6) like that along with body damage (both front door handles were heavily damaged/paint missing), scuffs and scratches on both bumpers and the hood, hood misaligned, stains on the rear seats and rear door cards from storing parts inside, greasy palm prints all over the truck, etc... On 8/12 it was "ready" but still had scuffs on both bumpers and the scratches on the hood, so they said they'd have it fixed again; 8/13 the scuffs on the front bumper remain but the dealer said "that's all we're willing to do", so I took the truck in the afternoon. Morning of 8/14 I had a "low engine oil warning" and no oil on the dipstick, added 0.4qt that I had and took it up to the dealer and was told that it's almost full and that the dipsticks are just hard to read and the warning must have been a delayed one from before, everything's fine. Afternoon of 8/14 noticed a puddle of oil under it and it actively dripping oil (looked at my cameras and saw it left a puddle in the driveway overnight as well), so I took it back to the dealer and I'm now in a different loaner.

I'm 10 days into the "up to 60 day processing time" of the lemon request.

Sure, my point is that your failure is a different issue compared to the recall, which usually affects main bearings and happens at much higher miles.

Your failure sounds like a blunt f-up during manufacturing.

Yes, this would be especially helpful for your fellow Marylanders. That dealer should lose their Toyota franchise for work that shoddy. You did tell me the dealer name in a PM, but I will let you post it here if you want.

No, his #5 main bearing failed on his factory installed 2025 motor at 1200ish miles. The failure can happen at any mileage, it’s not limited to higher mileage trucks. What he’s describing now is his experience with the replacement motor.

Most people reporting second engine failure have had rebuilt engines, while a lot of post present these as a second failure after replacement. So apologize for the incorrect assumption, seems this was a crate engine replacement under recall?

Even then, most early failures are very few in numbers and limited to mainly 24-25 builds. The known 22-23 failures happen at much higher mileages based on the google sheet. Very few if any of those trucks had this kind of early failures. Please look at the data, these very early failures in 24-25 newer trucks are statistically highly unlikely to be the same failures in 22-23 trucks.

I still think these low mileage failures we see are due to gross negligence or part defects that are unrelated to what plagues the early trucks.

Been here for the whole thing following along since the 2022s hit the shelves. Very aware. His low mileage failure was a main bearing failure of his original factory installed engine. Doesn’t matter how anyone feels about it or chooses to personally interpret the data. The failures don’t care about any of that, they happen when they happen. The average does not dictate the occurrence of the failure, it is merely a product of it.

Correct. When the vehicle was attempted to be returned to me actively dripping oil (after being mis-timed) with body damage on every side (and inside) and finding out that Toyota had rescinded (overruled, technically) the offer of an extended warranty any confidence I had in the vehicle was gone.

Gotcha. I've been through a lemon law buyback myself, albeit a different manufacturer. When all was said and done it took a little over 2 months, but i got every cent back I spent. Friendly advice, if you did anything like window tinting, PPF, ceramic coating, you can request reimbursement in the buyback process (they will ask for receipts). I did because I had spent thousands, and I got reimbursed for all of the above items.

That was the first (only) email Toyota sent me when the process started, was asking for receipts

This is crazy... basically this bad dealer created a lemon out of lemonade. Good luck, and I hope it goes smoothly. I wonder if Toyota has some process to penalize or otherwise "encourage" dealers to improve.
