I’m considering my first Tundra and I found this one on MP. I’d like to get this communities opinion of the rust in the photos.

The truck is super clean for the most part and has 118k miles. I found that the truck spent most of its life in the NE until 5 years ago. The frame has some rust based on the photos the seller posted and I’m not sure what to make of it. I’m going to look at it today, so I will try to get some more photos.

The seller is asking $14k which I think is too high for this truck.

I plan on having a pre-purchase inspection if I go through with the purchase.

Nope, way too much rust for that price point.

Not only that, but looks like the original radiator, and it's ready to blow.

And it has VSC, note the brake MC.

    Pass - Pass - Pass all-around.

Thanks for the responses! I was able to go look at the truck and confirmed that the frame is in bad shape. At least I'm learning what things to look out for! There was one spot on the body mount weld where I was able to pick pretty significant amounts of rust off.

I also noticed that it needed a new exhaust. The AC didn't work and the brakes were extremely heavy to use.

One more photo of a crack I think I noticed on the body mount.

Good eyes, yep, you're getting the hang of this. You really need to look over every inch and behind every flap, apron, splash guard, inside the rails and out.

That frame is utterly fucked, and that person is selling an accident waiting to happen.

I love that exhaust hanger to nowhere.

That's unfortunate. Really nice looking truck otherwise. But yes, no way I'd buy it with that frame. You can find a similar truck with a nearly pristine frame out west, for a similar price point. Any 1st gen without rust and miles that low is easily going to go for $14k. But you can find them for $8,000-$15,000 in the 100,000-200,000 mile range with completely acceptable frames all the time out here.

I almost bought a black 06 DC SR5 that gave the same appearance. You fall in love with how well it looks and then you get on your back and ....yuck.

I told the seller about my concerns with the frame and he countered with "it's a 20 year old truck, it won't be perfect." He also said that probably 20 people have come to take a look at it, that kind of tells you something must be off with it.

Ya if the other 20 haven't bought it. That's a sign.
Run away as fast as you can.

At least he didn't try to cover the rust with a quick coat of black spray paint.

Keep looking and don’t look back. That amount of rust isn’t worth $14k and it’s what you don’t see that’s the issue. (These trucks rust from the inside out; although after seeing that update, it could go either way).

You should ask why he has it priced like its perfect! :monocle:

The truck I bought is very similar - extremely clean cab but has rusty frame (less rust than this truck). I got it for half the price so there is budget left over to have a fab shop do any welding repairs that are needed and then have it rust converted and undercoated.
