    We liked our 2019 Ridgeline and it did a great job towing our trailer. It wasn't the fastest but pretty dependable and Honda Canada had no issues fixing things like paint pealing off the doors, etc...

    It is smaller than the 6.5' bed trucks but had a 1,500 lbs payload.

    We decided to trade our Ridgeline for a 22 Tundra because of the Toyota's famous reliability and the brochure stating the mythical 1,940 lbs of payload! Our Tundra payload was 1,390 lbs. The tech in the Tundra was newer than what we got in the Ridgeline and the 10 spd trans vs the 6 spd was nice to eliminate the gear hunting. The Gen 3 Tundra does come with a laundry list of issues but the power certainly is nice and so is the great big sun roof if you get that feature.

    The newer Ridgelines come with more gears (8 or 9 if memory serves) which would really help. We went away from the Ridgeline in search of more capacity for our work, after trying out the Tundra and Toyota Canada we went to something with more capacity.

    Out of one frying pan and into another :)

    What's so bad about it? 12 speakers from a higher end brand isn't enough?

    This truck is basically on par with a BMW, possibly even worse. Never know when the next problem will take place.

    Yeah, good old marketing. It's like gas mileage ratings for a truck. Only tested on a dyno or if some "auto journalist expert" gets ahold of one, it's with an empty bed and no trailer.

    Nice Ridgeline and color. Drove one (an 18) and it was very nice. May still consider one but it would have to be the right one.

    I bet the power in the 3rd gen Tundra is nice but it's not like the gen 2 was a slouch. The 5.7 handled everything and more.

    And I've never driven a 10 speed but wouldn't that create a lot more gear hunting than a 6 speed, simply because there are more gears to choose from?

    I think it is more of a perception. I found that the V6 in the Ridgeline was either revving too low or too high for a climb so it seemed to jump between gears and never really find a happy one. With the extra gears it would have a better match for the demand.

    The Tundra seemed happy to sit under 2,000 rpm most of the time as it had lots of gearing choices and a lots of torque and low rpm's (sort of diesel like torque ;) ).

    I borrowed a buddies 2023 Taco and found the same sort of thing happening when travelling through the Rockies. His had the 6 spd and V6 configuration (similar to the Ridgeline).

    The part of 395 I referred to is a straight line highway or freeway through an uninhabited desert. I’ve been around for a while and respect safety above all else!

    I am not going to proselytize you on the 3rd Gen, but I will say the 10 speed Transmission is really nice, really smooth, and puts it in the ideal RPM zone all the time. You don’t really even notice it, which in my mind, has always been a good signifier of something working exactly like it should.

    I personally enjoy my truck quite a bit as well as the TTV6, but it would be pretty neat to see if someone could hook this 10 speed up to a 5.7. It would be interesting to see how the mileage and power band ended up.

    The 10 spd in my new Tundra is nice, smooth shifting but as noted, in manual mode it only takes your gear selection as a suggestion. My previous 2020 Ridgeline had a 9-speed ZF with steering wheel paddle shifters. It had a gear for everything and it stayed in the gear you chose unless you were going too slow for it, but it gave something more akin to true manual gear selection. My prior 2017 Ridgeline was a 6-speed which was decent but basic, no paddles or manual control over gear selection.

    Manual mode in Toyota acts as a limiter, not a true gear selector. If in “S mode” (as Toyota calls it) the gear displayed is the highest gear the transmission will shift into. It can downshift to any gear it wants below that number.

    You said you were passing on "hill climbs" at 95+ mph. And what was the speed limit on those sections?

    It doesn't sound like you respect safety, or the law, at all.

    Gear shifting is different from gear hunting. A 6 speed essentially only has gears 1,2,4,6,8,10 as compared to a 10 speed. So if you’re going uphill with a load, 6th gear might be too low and 8th gear too high. So it’ll keep switching between the two. On the 10 speed, it’ll just stay in 7th gear.

    One could also ease off gas a little bit and let the speed bleed a little bit. By the time you reach the summit, it's all over. I haven't had any issues with my mediocre 4.6v8 or in the other car 2.7i4. They both were able to find a happy medium with driver's reasonable understanding.
