    Good afternoon everyone,

I am looking at buying my first Tundra - it's taking many hours at the desk (and involves managing so much spam!). My search is now so specific that there are only a few options within several hours of travel.

I have found one that is a good fit, but want to ask the community here what their thoughts are about a vehicle that has been in 2 accidents with 'moderate damage'. I do notice that the frame may have been affected by the 2nd one. (weird also that the accidents are dated exactly 2 years apart).

It has 118,000 miles on it, and they're asking $40K. My own initial thinking is that the accident history should probably bring that price down. OR - it's not about price - this vehicle now has enough unknowns with it that it's no longer a safe bet. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

No way I'd spend that much on a truck that's been wrecked bad enough that frame damage is a concern. For that much money - you should be able to find a clean 2018+ accident free truck.

Walk away from that one. Frame damage repairs could be covering other hidden issues.

I'd walk away from that one. I picked mine up last fall, single owner, all maintenance done at the dealership where purchased. It's a 4x4 Platinum w/120K on it for $34K. AND it came with tonneau cover, Fuel wheels, and a leveled suspension to boot! You can do better. Keep looking and be patient.

I’d steer clear of that one. I paid $40k for a 2018 Limited with 50k miles and it was a one owner southern truck.

I am with everyone else. Walk away.
I am sure you can find a truck to your liking.
Just because of possible frame damage is why I would walk away.
I found my 2016 SR5 Tundra with 21, 400 plus miles on it about an hour away from me.
    I traded y 2006 Mazda Speed 6 with over 150,000 miles
They gave my $1500 for my Mazda and I gave them a check for $27,000 plus.
I have not had any problems with it.
It now had over 62,000 miles.
I used CarGurus.com. I entered all the information on the truck I was looking for. Then searched through the ads listed until I found the truck that was close to what I wanted.

I’d never buy a truck I knew was in an accident, regardless of mileage.

Wow, thinking confirmed! Thank you all.

Just back in from checking out a 2021 1794 Tundra at our nearest Carmax. Apx 68,000 miles on it, and unexpectedly, this truck has really been worked as a trades vehicle. I appreciate that the seller did not attempt to spray over the issues - I would prefer to see it 'as real'.

Photos attached - is this truck considered 'lifted' or might it actually be part of the original configuration? (I see cautionary tales from knowledgeable owners about taking on other people's tweaks). This truck sounds and feels great. Absolutely no noises, no deviation under braking. My truck really is going to 'work' when I get it - I will be using it more or less like a contractor does, owing to all of the repair responsibilities I have for friends'n family. I would want to add a rack to it asap. The add on for me is long distances - 360 miles on one leg, 500 on the other. I am older and have decided to use some retirement funds to enjoy a comfortable ride.

I was NOT able to get up a display of transmission shift position - I wanted to see how well it was stepping up and down during hard acceleration and slowing. I also did not have my BlueDriver scan tool on that trip.

Ran into a weird policy thing as I handed in the keys - I stated I would like to book time on a hoist and come back to arrange for a check-out. The answer was in effect "Fine, but you need to buy the vehicle first". Uh, what?!

I guess that takes Carmax out of the equation for me. I told the young employee that this suggests a lack of confidence of the business in the vehicles they have for sale... but he's probably 21 and what does he know or care!

(As I left I told him that they might want to re-attach the front bumper. Similar lack of interest. I tried).

I'm not seeing a lift. Looks like a TRD OR package on a 1794 - didn't know they offered those two together.

What's the nearest big city? I'd bet some people on here can find you some viable options.

That's a pretty rare truck based on my experience. You COULD get the TRD OR as an option on the 1794s. It looks bone stock to me. A little rough cosmetically, but looks like easily addressed items. Depending on the price, might be a good deal.

Thank you. They are asking $45,000 for it. And when I mentioned the cosmetic issues I had found, it seems that they (Carmax) do not consider discounting.

I wish there was a way to see the accurate service history. I'm not at all worried about a working truck, as long as it was getting fresh fluids right when the engine needed them.

Appears that one was involved in a crash as well with unknown damage?

For $45k, and that thing obviously ridden hard and put away wet, that would be another hard pass for me. There is a truck out there for but this isn’t one I would drop that kind of coin on

    Exactly.
Bought mine about 18 months ago.
2019 CM TRD offroad in very good condition.
48,000 miles and it was $38,900.
That was about the average for those miles when I was shopping.
$42,000 was about the top for higher models with that mileage.

I bought my 2020 Platinum in 2021 for 45K and under 40K miles, no accidents. This truck is overpriced, especially for the condition. It’s 2025.

I paid sticker price in 2021. Now im seeing people 5 years later with 50k to 130k miles paying the same price or close to its MSRP. This is worse. I think its inflation and the imploding Turbo V6's
