+1 on Highlands. I like both of those you have. I like Glenfiddich 14 (and older) if the two you have pique your interest in Scotch. I have a bottle of Laphroaig, though, that will peel the paint off your Tundra. It's definitely an acquired taste.

So, it looks like the Dalmore 12 is $80... basically same price point as these other 2; the 15 is $150, and the 18 is $399.

I'd have to go inland for the 18, but it's available... is it worth that $$$

Looks like the Chivas Regal 25 is $400 also...

So, in reference to these other 2: The Macallen 12 is nice very limited peat, but some metallic flavor on the finish for some reason.

The Chivas 18 Regal is much heavier on peat than I usually target, but it's much smoother and oakey on the finish...

So far, Chivas 18 for the win :muscleflexing: (looks to be speyside)...

I've got a 21 year scotch buried somewhere that I've got to go find... Don't remember what it is though

The in-laws (father and brother) both like Oban, but I didn't care for that so muc :notsure:

    One of my favorite 1-liners...

I like my women like I like my Scotch. 18 years old and mixed up in coke.

Dalmore cigar malt is amazing if you can afford it.

I mostly drink Laphroaig and other islays, though. I like my whisky with actual flavour.

I think that one you were talking about laphroaig or however it's spelled is from that tiny coastal area and supposedly super heavy peat...

I think i tried a couple from there earlier in my times and remember it was like drinking from an ashtray... but that was younger me and may require a re-visit :D

Looks like the cigar malt is available inland from me as well at $170... What do you like so much about it, and what kind of flavor profiles, etc. do you get out of it.

I can attest that the Laphroaig will be heavily peated.

I was gifted a btl of the cigar malt for my bday lasted year. I was on hiatus from drinking at the time and have yet to open it up. From tasting notes of about 3 years ago I wrote:
Strong forward apple on the nose. Smooth as silk with a hint of tobbaco on the finish. If you want to stop by for a tasting I'll open it up.

To answer your question about if the 18 is worth it, the question I propose is, do you have $400 to spend on some? If so, yes. I know I'm a bit of an outlier with prices do to my industry status but that also seems a touch high. We pay $269 for the btl from our distributor. I forget, is Oregon a state run agency?

Yeah, state run... so the state sets the pricing, which generally is pretty close to MSRP and any ultra rare or trendy bottles are through quarterly state lottery drawings; kind of a double edged sword.

As an example we'll use Pappy since those are super inflated right now...

Pappy 15 and Family Reserve 13 year Rye are both $199

Pappy 20 is $320 (or just a bit less than the current sale price of one OG Brown Squatch)

Pappy 23 is $450 (or essentially the current market value of one OG Brown Squatch)

Also, Eagle Rare 17 year and Sazerac 18 year are both $150. I found a bottle of Blanton's sitting on a local shelf a couple of weeks ago, and it was $79 (about 1/2 of most retail/online vendors right now, but about the limit of what I'd spend on it)

... bottom line is that the state has inflated the price over MSRP a bit, but certainly no where near current market pricing on these WAY OVERPRICED examples!!!

While legalized MJ is definitely creating a drop in alcohol consumption, the real culprit is the state... For example, here in OR only the state can sell hard liquor (and bars), but grocery stores, etc. can vend beer and wine. However, the state is taxing and regulating beer and wine (and the farming involved in these industries to a point that it's driving the beer and wine producers out of business.

Even commericals and health authorties pushes are for folks to consume weed over alcohol.

I believer some of the farmers and grape growers in the state have actually filed suit because they are being driven out of business...

    Kinda sad...
