Hoping to pickup my first Toyota/Tundra. Looking at two options atm and would love some insight. Both trucks in the same mileage range (60-80k) and similarly priced in the 38-40k range. Both no accidents, 1-2 owners. A little confused about the SR5 and how it has leather seats. Possibly from the TSS upgrade?

Hoping some of you experts can give me some insight on which option is the play.

PS: sorry if I put this in the wrong forum, wasn't sure where this kind of post belongs

    Welcome from NY.

I'd go with the 2021 Tundra, newer and less mileage.

Are you near both of these trucks? Is it possible to drive to their locations to look at them in person? Pictures can only do so much. Sitting in the truck, looking at it from every side, driving it, etc. will give you so much more insight.

The blue one. You will see 75 silver Tundra's a day.

Edit: 4x2 vs 4x4 is not a realistic comparison for most, you're looking for a 4wd or you aren't

I think the "play" is whichever one makes you happier. That said I'm a bells & whistles man. I'd go with the '19.

    1) 4x4
    2) Sunroof
    3) Automatic climate control.

I just bought a well kept 21 SR5 with 29.3k for $38. Too me price seems high but that might be fair market value for your area.

It looks like the blue 21 has aftermarket Katskin leather seats based off the tag I see.

Go with the blue. I had a silver Platinum and couldn't stand having silver. I "downgraded" to a black SR5 and don't miss too many of the features.

Also, if you want stock Carplay, go with the 21.

Ah, just saw the blue 21 is not 4wd. That may be a big factor for you depending on your location and uses.

Holy shit did not even realize that it was possible that these things don't come with 4wd. Blue's off the menu as I'm in Salt Lake City.

While the 2wd has a MUCH better color, being 2wd that to me is basically a no sale. Silver one for the win.

Yep they come in 2wd. I bought my 2021 double cab SR5 with upgrades for 38k that was its sticker price when it was brand new when I bought it. The dealer also had 2 to 3 year old SR5's with 4x4 with 50k to 70k plus miles on them for 10k more than a new one.

I work in a industry that has me drive my truck off road everyday. Only been stuck once cost me 100$ cause I bet I would never get stuck to my co workers. I still have the other $9900 and the 50k less miles. We'll worth it. But to each his own.

I would buy newer one. because I don't need 4x4.

Mine is. ‘21 SR5 with leather seats. Think 2020/2021 were the only years that option was available. It was also limited to cement and black exterior colors I think.

Man I would be really tempted to go with the Platinum. especially if you can talk them down a bit. The ventilated seats, the power fold mirrors, things you can't add to a limited or SR5 easily. I agree with @red61cj5 silver is overdone. Test drive them all. the only thing on the 2019 red platinum is its slightly higher miles. For a price comparison I just bought my 2020 limited dbl cab 4x4 in April for $38k @ 75000 miles. Even with the slightly higher mileage the platinum would be worth it provided there are no suprises, after all its a tundra its just been broken in at 120,000 miles. Plus being the platinum its already been chrome deleted at factory on the grille and bumpers. saves you some money on mods and looks rad!

That’s a fair deal. Better if you haggle down some. It looks like it’s got a bed cover already, aftermarket rims, and it looks like already leveled if you like that look. I think the 19s still had the tranny cooler as well. Something I wish my 20 had.

As a 2020 Platinum owner, I would say go for that. Carplay, ventilated seats, its all color matched so less chrome to throw in the garbage, levelled and if it was a GM/Dodge/Ferd, 120k would mean its ready for the scrap pile, its a Tundra, you have at least twice that much to go.

Vented seats are total garbage on our Tundras, don't let that sway you too much. The nice thing about the Platinum is the headlights, leather quality, and like you said no chrome in the front or back and if you care, the front parking sensors.

I'm as big of a 2.5 gen Tundra you'll find and even I think these prices are crazy. 120k miles and it still holds nearly 80% of the original value.

I belive it's because of the TURBO V6 engine failures and recalls. This market is ridiculous. I keep seeing 5 year old 2wd with lots of miles selling for around 2k to 5k of the price I paid new. Or 2.2% Deperation a year.

I've been trying to find my wife a 21-22 Sequoia to replace our 14 that is 4x4. There is only 3 total in 150 miles of HTX that haven't been in an accident. 2022 SR5 with 53K for $47K, 2020 Limited with 89K for $42K, 2021 Platinum with 45K for $57K. GTFO with these prices, these aren't LC's or LX570's.

I think it has more to do with Autotrader owning KBB and how they value vehicles.

I see your enjoying the "Toyota Premium prices" Lol Its still worth it though as long as the reliability is there. If the TURBO V6's Tundras/Sequoias command prices like these im out and back to an American Brand since reliability is the same and their trucks are alot cheaper price wise.

Uhhh, yeah... and 73 of them will look friggin' awesome! :bananadance:

    20241130_133647.jpg

    20241129_164631.jpg

No, I hear ya'... I thought I wanted MGM when I started shopping, but came across the SSM as a CPO w/20K miles, and there more I looked at it the more I liked the Silver. I used to think Silver cars were super boring, but the Silvers they do now have a lot more depth, like liquid Mercury. (You guys ever used to break open thermometers as kids to play with the Mercury?)

I'm funny about car colors. I love that Voodoo Blue, and when I see one on the road I'm like "Wow, that's a cool color." but I don't want to walk out every morning and see something super bright sitting there. Weird, I know.

For a weekend cruiser or a hot rod, hell yeah, but for my daily driver I like something more subtle.
But that's all just personal preference.

Actually '18 was the last year with external cooler... I learned of this shortly AFTER I bought my '19. :crapstorm:

I've been monitoring temps (especially while towing) and have decided that (at least for now) it's a non-issue.

I'll continue to monitor temps, and do drain and fills on a "severe duty" interval every 30K.

    20241126_115136.jpg

OP, go with the 4X4, even if you don't think you need it, it's nice to have and resale is better.

It is pretty nuts. I know how long these things are supposed to run, but its still hard to justify. Thinking about putting a hard haggle on the dealership this weekend. Problem is I have no idea to haggle a car that everyone seems to want to buy
