I subjected the 02 AC to about 1,300 lbs of top soil in the bed along with a small trailer carrying 1,300 lbs of sod. I wasn't sure we would make it, but we did!

I like the sound of this. I’m not sure what the best material would be though. I would suggest not plywood.
I could see some sort of thin plastic or thick rubber that was maybe molded; similar to the wheel well liner.

Has to be durable, but flexible. The body and the frame move somewhat independently at times on the body mounts. Can’t be cut to exact size of resting gap. Needs a little slack for the bounces.

Good point. Molded plastic probably won’t do it. Rubber sounds good. Neoprene? That might be too absorbent but the flexibility is good.
Maybe neoprene with a thin rubber coating.

Any polymer engineers in the building?

Turns out 4Crawler sent their shorter Tacoma length bolts instead of Tundra, by mistake. But the 1" body lift is on the truck.
Fingers crossed the hammer hangers and rear shock relocation are knocked out this week. I can't wait to pick Penelope up from 4LoFab! :woot:

Sorry no pics. We were just too busy to even think about it.

Did two yards minus the trailer. Both owned by the previous owner of the Tundra. :)

Got rained on during the drive home for the trailer but still managed to get 4 more yards in. Did the best job yet backing into this one driveway.

Wife noticed a water drip under the passenger side but it appears to have been condensate from the AC. No smell to it and it's clear so I'm assuming that's what it was.

Hope to remove fallen tree branches tomorrow from three different clients. Will pull small trailer to haul those to landfill.

Well I don't have 35's, so yes I still have splash guards. I haven't needed to make more space. :sawzall:

I was thinking that themoform sheeting (Holstex, Kydex) could be used to make custom aprons or splash guards since it can be cut and molded into shape.

Someone was talking about wanting to get a lumber rack that would fit over the top of a canopy? This rack isn’t for sale separately, but it gives you an idea of what it would look like. It also gives you a great look into what it would take to modify a standard rack to fit over the top of a canopy.

The one in the link is a Rack-It brand (one of my favorites). Simple is a relative term, but if you had all the tools and materials, it would be fairly straightforward to modify a normal Rack-It rack to fit over the top of a canopy. No tube bender is required, just grinders, chopsaw or possibly a torch if you’re inclined, welder, primer and paint.

Not today, but recently, put a four wheel camper on my Tundra.

Was planning on advertising my old Leer topper here as well, but promptly lost my job in an unexpected layoff so not sure what to do next or which one to sell...

Hoping to find work again soon. Seattle area, 9 yrs commerical GC experience, 1 year manufacturing project management experience.

I'm casually looking for a nice topper for my Phantom Gray DC. If you decide to sell it, let me know. We'd have to figure out how to get it from WA to TX, but details...

Definitely appreciate the recommendation. I was in crunch time and needed to do both in a single trip. Hopefully, that won't happen again. If I were to start doing this on a regular basis, I'd definitely need to beef some things up.

There's a few DC toppers in Houston. One is grey, one is white. Of course now I don't see em on market place. I think I posted the grey one in the first gen topper thread, but it sold.

Here's a white one from that thread Here's another

How’re you liking the camper so far? Got a GFC, enjoy it a lot, but a 4 wheel camper looks like the next step up for comfort.

Let us know how you like it, and if it involves any cutting to install. I'm curious about the install and how stable it is. It's labeled as a "push bar" which makes me think it should be pretty stout.

I've only spent a few nights in it. Still figuring out storage and layout stuff but it's a nice place to hang out with a convertible couch and the bed above. I didn't want a GFC as I'm not a fan of the wedge style, but I am a fan of toppers that pop up all the way like the Topo Rincon, etc etc... buuut I just didn't want to commit to something that was a canopy in case I ever change trucks or something something resale. Also, I've never had a topper that hasn't leaked eventually... Lastly would be that it's not really enclosed or insulated... You could say that neither is the FWC, as far as insulation, but it might be more so than a metal truck bed...

Anyways, yea it's comfy, especially with a shell model with couch, lots of space.

I come from mountaineering, skiing, and thru-hiking (PCT) so I don't need a lot to be comfortable but dang this is luxury compared to a truck bed with a topper.

I remember from my truck camper that the bottom can get cold because of the truck bed. The guy I bought it from put some foam insulation and refelctix underneath and sprayed it with flexseal. Seemed like a good idea so I did the same thing.
If you plan to use that thing for some alpine starts or camping in the ski hill parking lot it might help a bit when you're insulating other areas. Hopefully it has a heater?

Niceee, curious how the interior looks so far.
The main draw for the GFC was I could leave my bed empty and still do truck things when need be. Honestly the wedge hasn't bugged me yet, but I could see the full pop up being more roomy. Actually kinda appreciate it when it's really windy as I'll put the wedge into the wind and not hear the fabric flap all night. Ya it's not insulated but man it gets toasty up top, been thinking about installing an rv fan. Although realistically insulation isn't a big deal down here in socal with the temps a lot warmer. Honestly main reason why I have the gfc now is I got a deal I couldn't say no haha.

Would definately like to try one of the fwcmodels in the future. Gf's uncle has a large non-popup FWC on this tundra and mannn having that extra room on top of the bedsides make things a lot more roomy.

I used to sleep under a soft topper for years, but enjoying the GFC luxury especially the gf :D

I finally got around to pulling my intake off due to constantly popping a knock sensor code (P0330). Haven't looked at the wires yet, but definitely signs of a rodent having been under there. I think I'm going to go ahead and replace the starter since I'm staring at it. Wondering if I should block off the secondary air pump or not.

How bad was it pulling the intake on your VVTi, overall, honestly? Shitloads of bolts and connections? Any tips or tricks you can think of to help avoid disconnecting stuff enough to get under it?

I wouldn't block off the SAIP. I would buy some Honda rodent tape and tape the connections in there, though. You know, damage control for next time. I can't help but wonder if rodents are attracted to the hole due to minor traces of coolant residue in there. I also wonder if droping a mint repellant ball near the opening of the intake would help keeping those bastards out of the valley.

I don't have the p/n on-hand to replace the knock sensor pigtail for the 2005+, Pretty sure it's a sealed Weatherpack style connector. As soon as I get off the work call I'm on, I'll look it up.
