Buddy of mine picked a MY24 Limited a dealer had be allocated. It did not have the door edge protectors from the factory. The dealer ordered them and was going to put them on when the truck arrived. Now the dealer says they don't know how to put them on without scratching the truck, and has been elevated to regional level.

Anyone have experience with putting these on? Can it really be that hard?

They are literally hammered onto the edge of the door. They will 100% scratch into the clear coat at a minimum.

I would opt not to have them. Most of the base model Tundras have them added for some reason. Serves no real purpose since it damages the finish putting them on verses damaging the finish if you bang the door into something else a zero sum game IMHO. Looks cleaner without them.

Are we sure they hammer them on? I thought they were ppf film?

I already have a chip on my driver door edge. Paint has been ordered and I have some thin ppf tape from Amazon.

Wow so much escalation without the need to. My 22 Taco came with PIO edge guards and pulled them off cuz it looks cleaner. Listed on sale on TW without movement and lightly tapped back on when selling to truck.
No damage to the truck with them off or when tapped back on. A soft rubber mallet does the trick. I used a microfiber towel in between the guard and mallet just in case.
Not much to it at all. That dealer needs to learn how to work on their products.

There are two different door edge accessory. The clip on paint matched type and 3M edge guards

I added this door edge guard today to protect from door dings in my garage. I like the black line on the white truck.

Mine came with them installed and they probably need to be pushed back on every other month. Usually the top will start to come off.
